Out of state students.

Actually, out of states students are what made the university what it is today. Without OOS students paying the excessive tuition, you wouldn’t have the new class buildings, the giant sorority and fraternity houses, and surely not the athletic facilities and football program.
Stop crying about OOS students... they quite literally created the university we now know today.

Come to Alabama, we'd love to have you and show you a charming and kind university experience. Just don't think you belong in an "old row" house (though there's really no such thing.) But anyway, these houses are full of small-town Alabama girls and they're not looking for new friends from California, Texas, or New Jersey. They've got all the friends they'll ever have and are going back home to live in their small towns and get married. That's all.

True but they take up half the house. There’s a whole other group of out of state girls that our friend with each other in all of the OR houses. And they are relevant on campus and represent that sorority just as much as girls from MB or Montgomery. You can still join an OR house from oos and have an amazing college experience. You just won’t be on exec

How is this not true? My OR house one year we had 15/20 girls from in state. The oos girls on exec were from private schools in ATL, nola, etc..... if you’re from far OOR and you want to be involved in your sorority don’t go OR. They pick exec based on their friends and it’s all rigged. I fu cking know cause I’ve experienced it so stfu if you don’t know what you’re talking about

Yeah girls who went to Lovett or sacred heart in Louisville or wherever don’t count as out of state girls. They’re just as involved in the “in crowd” as the girls from AL. I’m talking about girls who are from far away (like myself) and had no connections coming in. Goooood luck trying to get a relevant position on exec if that’s your case. Maybe you can be t shirt chair but that’s seriously even a stretch

I am from OOS and will “give” the houses generally considered OR their “top” rank as this is Bama after all.
That being said - the reason for this “top” ranking which is preference by in state girls and girls from some other specific southern areas - doesn’t matter to many OOS and most OOR.
There are no other measurable benefits to OR. So why (if I’m NOT concerned with who is there from my hometown) would I ever use it in my decisions?
Not saying to avoid OR. Frankly, it just isnt a consideration and NR opens more possibilities that are equally attractive to OOS and OOR girls. \n\n\n\n\n

When did I say OR was top? I was responding to the comment about how girls in OR don’t want knew friends. And they don’t. I was sharing my experience in an extremely southern OR house. I had a great time and the in state girls were nice, just not my bffs. When I rushed I didn’t think “OR vs NR” I picked the house that I thought was the best fit for me, my number one house all week. And I would have never changed it for anything...... you can have a great time from far OOR if you join an OR house. That’s all I’m saying

Exactly. That's why these rankings are so silly. OR is great for girls from MB going for a Mrs. degree but for most oos girls OR is stifling and uncomfortable. So why are they ranked first always?

Did you even read my comment? OR was not stifling or uncomfortable. And I am from far OOR. Joining my house was one of the best and most rewarding experiences of my life so far. I personally would not have wanted to be on exec anyway and neither did any of my friends. I would say I had an even better time freshman year than many of my NR friends. You can have just as much fun in an OR house no matter where you are from so stop trying to put them down?
