Not very Smart

Can someone tell me why these girls come here to pay this high priced tuition, sorority dues etc. Just to be a teacher or some other low paid salary profession? The annual salary isn’t even one years cost of education?

Alabama is not even an expensive college and you need a degree to do those types of jobs. And they’re EXTREMELY generous with scholarships

Not really compared to other big universities. And if you have even remotely decent scores and grades they give you money.

Alabama is just like any other college in the country. It has education programs, it was programs for every profession. People have to fill those? Those jobs all require a degree. Don’t understand your confusion

Don’t think there is confusion, more about questioning someone’s choice on careers that don’t pay very much vs what it cost to get that degree.

I understand the question, my answer would be, it must be thier passion or choice of career for far more reason than money.
It would have to be.

Right and they’re supposed to go to smaller school and not get the sec school experience they’ve probably always wanted just because they’re going to be a teacher? No

Maybe they have more money than you and OOS tuition isn’t expensive to them.Maybe their parents are more successful than yours.

You had teachers, no? You should thank them and be grateful for putting up with you.

I'm almost certain at least 50% of people in college are not there just for the education alone. Memories and experiences you make at a big SEC school are priceless.

First- I’m an education major. I find it insulting that you think my degree is cheap and not worth the money. I plan on getting my master’s degree.
Second- I have a 3.9 GPA. I came to UA with a 4.2 from HS. I receive some merit scholarship money. My parents are graciously paying the remainder and my one year master’s program so I graduate with zero debt.
Lastly- I will be returning to California. First year teachers get paid between $65k- $72k, with a master’s degree, in my county. No, I won’t be rolling in money, but I won’t be destitute. And, I can work summer school for 4 of my 8 weeks of summer vacation and earn another $7k.
I love my program, I love working with and teaching children, and I love UA.
