Why do y'all dress up on bid day

Hey okay so I go to a school out of state and am curious why for bid day y'all dress up so much? Like in fancier clothes? For our bid days we dress based off the theme in more costume clothes!! Just curious!!!

Some people go out afterwards, because the new members head out on retreat in a normal year. After work week and recruitment week, people are happy to socialize again.
