How do we get more bipoc women to rush?

by: xxz

A lot of bipoc women skip rush and go straight to the divine nine. No criticism but how can we also get them to look at Panhel? I’d like a more divsee sororority

You have to truly reach the values based recruitment idea. No “what town is she from?, Will frat guys like her?” or how they dress It strictly has to come down to values

And honestly there is definitely room for improvement but Alabama is definitely not the worst school. There are definitely schools where they don’t even care about your grades. If you aren’t considered hot you are dropped immediately.

Why should your grades matter if it is supposed to be a sisterhood of your closest friends?

Why do the football players and other athletes have to maintain a certain gpa if they’re here to play sports? We are college students first. Alsoooo remember the “values” in our values based recruitment? Scholarship is a value. Recruiting people who look a certain way is not.

Grades matter because scholarship is a primary standard of the National Panhellenic Council, which is the governing body for all NPC chapters. Sororities were not originally founded to be party venues for hot girls:

NPC Standards

I: Positively affecting intellectual development
Each member organization places high value on education, academic performance and
intellectual development.

Minimum chapter standards:
• Meet or exceed the campus all-women’s grade point average.
• Provide academic programming to new members and initiated members, such as
recognizing scholastic achievement and promoting academic success resources.
• Prioritizing programming with student learning objectives and offer a balanced calendar that
honors a member’s primary focus as a student.
• Develop positive relationships with university faculty members.
• Recruit women in good academic standing.

@grades & ok mom
You sound like morons. That’s literally from the council that governs our sororities. Go form a drinking club somewhere on your own then with no standards for membership if you hate it. Grades are reflective of scholarship (which is a value) as is pursuing a difficult major/more than one major. However, difficulty of major is subjective. Grades are objective. You got an A I got a B. The end.

I think it will start happening when greek life (like someone said before) becomes more values-based. When a chapter focuses almost exclusively on personal values, you will see a lot more diversity. In the south, top houses look for attractive women who come from the right schools and zip codes and who are wealthy. These things prove to be barriers for bipoc who are just recently gaining access to the upper classes. Bottom tier chapters tend to be the most diverse in terms of race, class, and body types. I think greek life needs to examine what traits should be "top." Is it fitting into a relatively narrow view of what is physically desirable (money clothes, color, etc) or is it morals and values. This is not to say that top houses don't have moral compasses, just that bottom houses are forced to look at them bc all the pretty wealthy women are recruited to the top. Once recruitment is truly blind will bipoc start making their way into panhellenic and ifc greek life.

this^ let‘snot pretend we all don’t see the way this campus talks about the chapters that are truly pushing diversity. if i deviated from the “standard” sorority girl in any way i probably wouldn’t want to join most apa chapters either

There are some things that make divine 9 orgs different than Panhellenic ones that people prefer. They are intentionally small, service and academic forward and the alumni network is amazing. I think some of these things would need to be implemented to encourage people to join.

How do you make it worthwhile for a black woman to join? Nobody wants to drop thousands of dollars just to deal with racism so why should they join? What would they gain from it

How about letting people join what they want to join.

You know "freedom of association"...and stop trying to engaged in leftist social-cultural control.

There are no rules preventing someone from joining whatever group they like. That's called freedom and its great.

Stop living in the past and start living in the present.

Today in 2020 anyone can join what they want. And any organization can accept who they like.

You don't like this situation of freedom. So make your case for social control-social engineering comrade.

You’re the one living in the past. Your perspective is absolute rule isn’t it? 2020 everyone is being treated fairly! There’s definitely no people in positions of power, even in college, that have biases towards people who don’t look like them.
