Can someone explain the Machine?

The CW ran a decent article on it in the past month (decent for CW's historical tilt).
You can use google and find a skewed Wikipedia page or a few blogs detailing it. The rigging of the city council election is an interesting story that could have only happened in Alabama or Mississippi. AL dot com had a decent podcast on it called "Greek Gods."
Also FYI, this post will probably get pulled down. They tend to abuse the report button just to prevent a discussion on the topic. Petty yokels.
