How hard is it to rush as a soph
by: QuestionHow hard is it to rush as a sophomore?? Do houses still consider you?

Mostly hard. Most houses don't want sophomores so you're left with the ones that you didn't like as a freshman. We all agree that you have the best chance of choosing your house your freshman year. The only houses doing COB are probably the ones you didn't like during freshman recruitment. There's always a story about someone who got some highly desired house as a sophomore. I wouldn't believe that if I were you.

in most regular years, there is a specific quota each house has to meet for the amount of upperclassmen they have to take, meaning that most sophomores (if they don't have major grade or social risks) end up in much better houses than they would if they rushed freshman year.I know a girl who rushed freshman year and got theta and then dropped before initiation, rushed again and went kappa.
the one risk you have is your behavior on campus throughout your freshman year. you'll have more interactions with active members meaning that if they see you messy at fraternities, stealing someone's guy, or if you just don't get along with them you'll most likely be dropped by their house.

I'm rushing as a sophomore and it depends on what you mean.
The houses I've gotten back are houses that I kinda thought I was too good for last year. I dropped pretty early in the process last year.
However, I spent a lot of time reflecting and growing in the last year and decided that I didn't want to go into Greek Life for popularity, so I'm looking for honest friendships and sisterhood. Which I think I can find at the houses that I have left right now.
Even though it turned out probably the same as it would have last year, I have a different attitude and that makes a lot of difference.
I got fewer houses back after the first cuts than I did last year. Certain houses definitely seem to have their sophomore picks picked out and it's not me, but that's okay.
I kinda wish I had joined last year because I would have had an extra year in Greek life, but I needed that time to grow too. It's a trade-off.
Anyway, just my perspective. I agree with the actives that rushing as a sophomore is hard, fewer houses will want you, and the ones that are open minded enough to give you a chance may be the ones who are wanting you this year anyway.

I mean that's the truth of it like someone said above... as a sophomore you are much less competitive and will end up with the houses you didn't want as a freshman. A couple of rockstars are magical exceptions to the rule.
But everyone's trying to be polite all the time so they're not telling you the truth about it.
