Virtual Rush - bad idea
by: VirtualGoing back to the thread about spring rush, how is virtual rush in the fall a good idea FOR THE PNMS? Not for the sorority house like the advisor on here keeps barking. Except for the in-state girls who already know they’ll pledge where there friends are, it will be Rushing while sitting in your new dorm room, talking to girls you do not know, pledging to a house you’ve never stepped foot in, committing a lot of money, and not having anything like what it should be. Wait til the spring and give these girls what they deserve. If not better, what is lost? Not money for one.

Better for the PNMs? Do you think it’s realistic to make meaningful connections with a stranger while sitting six feet away with a mask on? Having never seen what the other person looks like and straining to hear what they’re saying? Also, a lot of girls are coming from highly impacted areas and may not feel safe or comfortable going into an in person event- it’s not right for them to feel like the odd man out or feel pressured to attend an in person event.
No in person events for rush increases the likelihood there is in person events throughout the semester (eating at the house, new member meetings, sisterhood events, etc).
I don’t understand why everyone’s so upset about not being in person lol. Auburn doesn’t even have houses and everyone finds their fit just fine. Also I think people are forgetting, a majority of PNMs won’t be making hard decisions or cuts- the chapters will be doing this for them.
It’s better for PNMs because it keeps everyone safe. Who says things will be better by spring? Also, joining a sorority isn’t mandatory. Defer if you want. No ones making you rush this year.

In person rush really gives pnms an idea of the personality of the members. Even if masked. Everyone will be on their best behavior online. You won’t see them cut their eyes to their friends, fawn over other pnms while you sit there, act like themselves.
Sound good? No. Because you will end up in a house that is nothing like the video presentation. You won’t feel that welcome at certain places. You are. A. Filler. You didn’t get a chance to see where you feel comfortable.
Bad idea... if it’s not safe, go to spring.

I’m gonna say it. Y’all have a MASSIVE advantage with no contact lifted. Sooooo many pnms are texting actives and buttering up to them in hopes they’ll pull for them. These relationships aren’t something that happen any other year of recruitment. Sure sometimes people break no contact but not nearly as often as this year.
