how does colonization work?

by: Me

I know nearby chapters are often involved in the colonization process at new schools, but how does the process actually work? Who selects the founding class? Is it national advisors? National advisors and active chapter members from other schools?

Mainly out of curiosity.

National advisers come in and usually also young alumnae from other chapters. There are events and interviews over several months.

They usually have recent alumnae travel around as a Consultant team. Some of them will come to the new campus and kinda informal rush around campus. Then a couple will stay for the rest of the semester and basically act as Pres & VP until the first officer board is chosen. There’s usually a few informal events, an invitational event and then Bid Day. After the consultants leave there will be very heavy involvement from headquarters in the coming year. There’s a chapter advisor and usually multiple others. And people from headquarters everywhere especially at the first Recruitment. You’ll also have a consultant helping you out each semester but you slowly become more independent.

As many as they feel like are qualified.

I've helped colonize before, and the actives usually score, but the national representatives usually have the final say in who gets a bid. They want the new chapter to be chosen based on SK's national values, so the idea is that these other college members hold those values and know what to look for in PNMs, but they obviously don't have everyone's resume so they don't make final decisions if something disqualifies a PNM.

Will they be doing formal Recruitment next year, or be like SDT and sit out a few years?

By: SK
by: ^

No, they will not sit out a year. They must go ahead and recruit during formal. They will need to get their numbers up right away and the campus needs another viable option for PNM's during recruitment. We do not need another chapter like SDT, and SK came on campus to NOT be another SDT; we don't need another chapter not participating in formal.
