good rush
by: HWhich houses have the most potential to move in the ranks after this years rush? It seems to me that adpi, aopi, and xo all had very good pledge classes compared to their last. Phi mu I feel is slipping in the ranks. What’s your opinion

You obviously have limited info. If anything is happening, we might see xo stopped the decline but they had not moved in status. Tridelt is making a decent case to move into the conversation as a top house. Phi Mu is rock solid, so is AXO.
Kudos to ADPi and AOII for have no good rushes. They are doing fine.
Ranks change very gradually.

Ever house this year showed why we have one of the strongest Greek systems in the country! I honestly can’t name one house that did poorly.
In my opinion, I thought KD and kappa did exceptionally well. Both got a really cute pledge class and both shifted out of their instate focus, especially KD. But every single house put on an awesome recruitment.

I think chi o had the potential to put on one of the best rushes. I think their themes are some of the cutest but obviously that doesn’t translate to how well a house rushes. They have very strong interest in southern girls but split these girls with ddd, kappa, kd, axo, agd and some in phi mu.
They really struggle with OOS girls and this is where they lose out. The girls they get are strong but you can’t fill a PC with Alabama, MS, LA, and TN girls only.

Nothing will change because reputations are so engrained that one pledge class or even ten pledge classes won’t change anything about reputations. That is the whole reason old row and new row still exist. It’s not because there is a real difference in the two, it is just because there is a difference in the reputation of the two. Old row and new row are no different and pledge classes are so large that each sisoritubgetsbquakity girls. One day we can hope that girls are able to join houses where they truly believe they feel most at home instead of being influenced by some bogus ranking system created by women in the 1950s. The fact that some people still swear by old school rankings is really an outdated, anti feminist ideal. Greek women are powerful, involved, educated, and fun. Why do we insist that we have to rank them. Why can’t we just let people enjoy the spot where they feel they belong without having to say they’re number one, number five, or number 15. It’s time to enter the 21st century!

Heading back to my apartment I was watching Theta in front of the walk of champions. They seemed to get some really cute girls. I came late to rush from my internship and was helping with matching and serving for my house. I recognized some of their pledges as girls I expected to go in a different direction. They all looked like they were having a great time. Based on that very limited information I would guess that they did great.

For starters, if you think racial discrimination and taking only girls from 4 states are the same thing, you really can’t be helped. These houses have taken OOR girls for years. Maybe not a ton, but they definitely have some west coast and northern girls.
Secondly, ranks can definitely change, specially now that the demographics of Alabama as an institution have changed. With more OOS students, more quality PNMs are joinin whatever house they fit best with, regardless of row. Take houses like KD and AGD for example; 10 years ago no one would be saying they’re bottom of old row or rank them below New Row houses because they focused on in state students. Their rankings have changed quickly over the past few years and will likely change again in the next few years if they evolve along with the student body. To say house rankings are set in stone is categorically untrue and we’ve seen rankings change in the past four years.
Finally, no matter what PNMs a house takes, there’s always going to be some hate on here. No one knows who or what the houses were aiming for during recruitment unless they’re a member of that house. If KD and Chi O wanted to change it up and dropped a certain few girls who went to other houses, they’d be attacked for “losing their top PNMs” and people would say “those PNMs were stolen by XYZ.” But it they don’t shift and they keep the PNMs OTHER people think they need, they get lambasted for not changing and taking the same old girls.
So long as we treat recruitment like a winner-take-all battle, we will never be satisfied that all of us are happy where we ended up.

I mean kudos to those for having fine rushes. They each did better than most would have anticipated.
