overwhelmed

by: SaraBeth

I'm going through recruitment and I came to bama from the northeast basically knowing no one. And this is so much more overwhelming than I thought. It is all anybody wants to talk about and honestly I want to go to the parties and just leave it behind when they are done otherwise it gets too stressful. Most of my friends went to small schools in pennsylvania or the big boston colleges so they thought I was crazy just when I was getting recs. I'm beginning to think that maybe this isnt for me? I have 4 houses left. I feel outside of things. This is a stupid site I know that i just don't know where else to talk about it.

Time to stay off this site, and talk to your Rho Chi. Seriously.

I too am from PA. It's culture shock but honestly give it a chance. I love it here and I love my house. You'll be fine. Focus on the four houses that you have and just relax. Once you get through Bid Day you'll feel so much better. Recruitment is brutal but you can do it!

Good luck!

You have 4 houses left! Go to them with an open mind and give it your all! I felt that way too.....far from home, big transition, rush Steele! School hasn’t even started yet so give it a chance. I hope you come to love Bama as much as I do! There are so many opportunities here and you’ll meet people in and out of Greek life.

Please know that everyone feels the same way! Small town girls, new actives, girls with lower GPAs. So many are strangers trying to make impressions in what feels like high stakes. Just relax and be who you are from NE. Recruitment is very overwhelming, but it is half over and you will settle into a place of support in just a few days! Remember there are so many freshman women who also do not know anyone right now and would welcome anyone who reaches out to them in a welcoming way.
