legacy and getting dropped

Do legacies who have above a 3.2 get dropped after philanthropy? How often are legacies dropped?

Just a story to help prepare you....I had a 4.3 and was dropped by my legacy house. My mom didn't go to Bama though. Go figure. Didn't matter to my mom or me but it was so shocking and at the time very disappointing. You won't be dropped until after philanthropy. If you make it to sisterhood there's a strong chance you'll go to pref. I was dropped immediately after philanthropy. They couldn't drop me after IWT according to national bylaws.

Every situation and every house is different. My mom didn't go to Bama but I pledged my legacy house.

Do you mind me asking your GPA? I wouldn't be as worried if my GPA were much higher and are you OR or NR. If that makes a difference bc I don't know.

Being a legacy is no guarantee. My mom was OR at Bama and I was dropped after sisterhood...3.6 GPA.

Yes. Almost all houses have rules that you have to invite a legacy to philanthropy round. So a lot of legacies are cut after philanthropy because if a house knows they don’t want to give you a bid they don’t want to get your hopes up by inviting you to sisterhood and having you think that because you’re a legacy you’re set.
SO many girls who go through are legacies, so unless your legacy connection went to Alabama all it really does it get you to philanthropy (which could be enough if you end up being a good fit anyways and they decide they want you)

Are the rules for keeping legacies different if mom was in that particular chapter?

No, a legacy is a legacy. But, if mom was in a chapter here, that could mean connections that could help.

In any house, legacy status gets you a second look which means the sisters paid more attention to your information. Yes. You will get to philanthropy as a courtesy. Beyond that, it really comes down to how much the sisters want you in comparison to the rest of the girls rushing. Out of 2300 PNM's, each chapter will keep roughly about 120-150. Do the math. The odds are not in your favor.

I find that "you make it to philanthropy" thing to be a little silly. Most houses have a pretty good idea whether they want you or not before you walk in the door. Sure, IWTs might change things, but after IWTs, I'd rather be dropped than strung along another round if they don't want me.

I'm not actually sure that's a courtesy.

Bless your heart! It's not a courtesy to you. It is a courtesy given to your mama or sister or to whoever makes you a legacy.

I agree. But in my case, I couldn't wait to not have to go to my Legacy house again.

Yes, even if you meet or exceed the chapter's minimum GPA cutoff, you can still be cut after Philanthropy to your legacy chapter.

Honestly as a legacy, it will never be "safe" for you unless you are invited back to Pref. And even then, some sororities here do not guarantee a bid for legacies who make it to Pref. I've heard of DDD and Theta legacies not getting their legacy house even after being back for Pref.

XO, Kappa, DDD, and Zeta are kind of hard for legacies just because there are so many across the South that being a legacy is not special in the sense that for every legacy there are 2 or 3 other legacies fighting for the same spot.

I don't know if any of these are your house and it's really nothing you can do about it now. But nothing's over until it's over.

Delta zeta does not drop legacies, it is against their national policy to drop a legacy unless they have a REALLY good reason for doing so. Most other houses do not take legacies as seriously. They only have to invite them back to philanthropy round but can cut them after that.
