Ignore the idiots above and let me be honest with you.

Being honest with you — top sororities typically pair up with top fraternities for swaps and parties. Top fraternities don’t usually swap with bottom houses, but they will with mid tier.

Top houses can get you into positions with SGA and any other club or honor society on campus moreso than cotton houses can. That may not be important to you, but if it is take note.

Top houses have much stronger alumni groups and connections. This may benefit you when job searching after graduation. And even before then with internships.

Some of this is true and some isn't. "Top" houses are those with select girls from Alabama. If you live here and don't plan to move, that makes a difference. If you're more open, it means nothing.

The boys in the top frats are generally not ones that I would even consider seriously. They're generally a lot of overweight pasty guys who like to lord it over "their women." That's repulsive to me.

No house gets you into an honor society. Period. Anyone can be in a club. As to SGA and other choice orgs, a top house can only help you if there is a person from your particular house in a leadership role in the organization you aspire to. And if that person wants you on board. Happens much less than the person above suggests.

The "top" houses at Alabama (there are many threads about this) are ones that are lower houses literally everywhere else in the country. So if you're only looking in Alabama for a job, a top house won't hurt. If you're looking outside of Alabama, you might want something else -- Theta and G Phi come to mind. There are houses that are strong nationally that are not top here.

There are three tops houses here that are among the strongest and largest sororities nationally with huge alumnae groups. They are Kappa, Chi O and Tri Delt. Check your facts.

This is all fake news along with unicorns and fairy dust. Some of the top ranked houses are involved and some are not involved at all. Some middle and lower houses are extremely involved. Even without the machine those thetas get positions all over campus because they are good people. There are other involvement powerhouses that are not considered top houses here but this is the best example of this argument being fake.

The alumni groups and connections from our top is true if you are staying in Mobile or OTM or anywhere else in the deep south. It is true that those houses will have a lot more behind the scenes support during recruitment. That help also comes with strings attached so beware.I would say it is helpful in getting you into the club in Hoover but not for getting you a job in Dallas, Seattle, Boston, LA, or DC. You would need to look for stronger nationals for that. If after graduation you are headed to the coasts or up north, then you will want to pass on some of these ranked top houses and favor a mid or lower ranked house with huge alumni bases all over the country. This does not line up with our rankings.

If you want to be controlled by a bunch of down home bama boys then maybe being in a top house will help you. There are plenty of middle and lower ranked houses represented at the formals, tailgates, and date parties. If you are willing to give serve them what they want they are not checking for the letters on shirt. There are quality guys in all of the fraternities and many respect us much more then some of the "top" OR houses. In my mid level house we have had awesome swaps and social calendar. My roommate in one of the bottom houses as well.

The top houses are only top on GR. There are ranks and posts that explain this. There are smart houses (some top and some not) who are in the top 5 of the grade reports. Look it up. You can look up houses with great nationals and HUGE alumni groups for networking all over the country. You can look at the retention of the houses which shows you about the sisterhood. You can look at the involvement on campus. When you look at those measurable qualities and then rank the houses it would be completely different then the ranks here week after week. The old guard refuses to let that happen and the ranks continue.

Benefit to being in a top house = not much. We can't even agree on which houses they are so obviously there is no huge benefit. Now, a benefit to being greek or not. Of course. There are proven social, academic, leaership, and networking benefits to going greek.

I am a fairly recent alum and watching this a takes me back... let me share something real. Anybody that went to Bama or is familiar—and there are many all around the country—know the general reps and know old row is a thing. Any old row house will deliver a message that you were a Bama sorority girl from a top house. The others, you have to explain... or make something up. Of course many out in the real world don’t know and don’t car. But there are Bama alums and folks familiar all over. Many more than you would expect. Like the Bama club in ny and dc is actually very big. Huge in Atlanta, Nashville, etc. it is kinda shallow but old row matters for your “brand” in the longer run. Just being honest.

I graduated last year and I got my job because of my sorority. And I wasn’t a Theta or Gamma Phi. I was in an Old Row house with a large national presence and it helped me get my foot in the door with my employer.

So yes, there is some truth to the Old Row brand. If it’s not for you, then great - do your own thing. But you can at least acknowledge that it’s a real thing.

I am also a Bama alumna that has lived in DC and Boston. Yes, both cities have great Bama alumni groups, but NO ONE talks about what sorority you were in, we all are just so happy to be watching winning football each week all the way to to January! A little research can easily and quickly tell you who is best in NE and the Ivy league.

Your experience is not really going to be different

And, the sorority you get in doesn’t make you smarter, more likely to be involved in other activities, nicer or richer.

OR housss brand recognition in the state - basically mom can feel prouder when she tells her friends you are in one of those houses. . If your mom doesn’t feel that way, the perks are pretty much of no consequence to you.

Plenary of mid to lower ranked houses have large alumni and national organizations.
