fair warning on social media follows
by: Pc15As we head into this, I wanted to give pnms a little fair warning. Don’t count too much on, or read too much into, actives or house accounts following you on insta. Many houses cast a very wide net on their following. Even if you have dozens of followers from a house, you could still be dropped early. Happens all the time and makes pnms surprised. A bunch of followers is good in that you are on radars. Being in the radar does not translate to invites. So take everything one step at a time and assume nothing.

Yes!! I’m an active and following lots of PNMs. I’ll probably keep on eye on them during rush but that’s it unless I meet you and it goes great. There’s one girl my friends and I were following and we just found out today she’s getting dropped because of rep. We had no idea, we thought she looked like a nice, cute girl and got excited. Don’t read too much into follows!

A girl can look nice and cute but then you look st her insta and it’s questionable, or you check her grades, ect... you want to be able to check them out.

Alums and actives can pass on personal knowledge about reputation issues (are you a bully? have you repeatedly gotten wasted and vomited on various people's lawns? are you a klepto? did you smuggle ivory into the US after a mission trip - not kidding I heard a no rec about this).
These are the types of things that alums will mention in recs or tell actives about which will move you to the no invite list before recruitment even starts. If you don't have reputation issues, then chapters are excited to get to know you at IWT.

As a rec writing alum myself, I can attest to this. We are all well connected and we hear EVERYTHING and then include it in your recs.
Be very, very nice to those who write recs for you. And don’t forget to send thank you notes (an email is fine) and let us know where you pledge, even if t wasn’t our house.

i wouldn't read too much about a house following you, some just follow people back to increase their following. keep in mind, the page is run by a sister, not the whole chapter.

So you drop people before you even meet them? What’s the point of round 1? Seems like a waste of time for many.
