out of state question
by: Help.I am a girl from the midwest and I plan on rushing so which houses typically take only southern or in-state girls? Do I even have a chance being out of state?

Phi mu and kappa (and AXO if ur realllllyyy smart) will take girls from outside the south. The only organization that will completely shut you down because ur not from the south is KD. True ADPI and the rest of the new row houses will be more likely to take you (just because they take more girls from outside the south but that doesn't mean the old row houses won't take you. Just don't count on kappa delta cuz that one you really just can't beat.

when 70% of the pnms have been coming from out of state for years now?
Last year the numbers on UA website stated 2500 pnms with approximately 600 of them coming from in state.
If a chapter has 20 OOR members, that is around 5%?
How is this right? Where are your nationals during recruitment week, because there’s something really not right with these numbers. What good does it do to get rid of legacy policies if the alums and chapter purposely shut out anyone that is from OOR?
I guess it can’t be called racism- but it’s no better.

oor and oos are not the same. you didn't say how many oor just oos. every house has both but or has more oos than oor. the newer houses and the weaker rushing houses have always had more oos and oor. newer houses especially

As UA doesn’t provide data on OOR vs OOS, your comment is irrelevant. But I can still answer it based on Kappa Delta’s own posting of their new member lists including their hometowns. In a new member class of over 135 girls, a grand total of 8 were not from the South. Not one was from the Midwest. If this is not discriminatory, then I don’t know what is. There’s a link on Kappa Delta’s website to report discrimination and it’s open to anyone to report. Some people have been paying attention for years.

Because of the popularity of KKG, KD, AXO, XO, and PM among the Southern girls who have a TON of connections to Actives inside of these houses, a PNM from the Midwest that doesn't have connections nor anything that makes you really stand out (GPA of a 4.5, model, etc.) is going to have a hard time getting a bid from those houses. Its not personal, its a connections thing. As a Midwest girl you'd be an outcast in KKG and KD and to some degree XO.
If your grades are really high (above 4.0), AGD will be interested in you regardless of where you are from.
If you are super attractive (above the Bama average which is a high standard) and have a good social media presence, Zeta, PM and Aphi probably already have you on their radar even if you have no connections.
Houses with fewer Southern girl connections are PiPhi, DZ, Theta, Adpi, Aopi, DG, SK.
All the houses are great here so don't stress about this.

Oops. I forgot about DDD and Gphi. Both of those houses are geographically diverse but DDD is OR and tends to have more Southern than OOR girls in it.

Aphi also has fewer Southern girl connections. They have a lot girls from NJ and the Chicago area

there are non southern girls in kd they just make up a minority… but don’t act as if every house doesn’t have at least 10-20 girls from OOR. kd probably has the least but even they take some OOR girls…
