please help... i'm so nervous

by: h

i'm rushing as a sophomore... i have an above average college and high school GPA, and i have two recs for like 6 of the sororities that i'm really interested in (after observing all of them and meeting girls in each of them for a year i feel like i have a pretty good idea of what they're like). i also have a couple friends in my top 3 or 4 favorite houses. i have pretty good college and high school involvement and i'm from an area that sends a lot of girls to alabama. i'm definitely not the prettiest girl, but i'm wondering what my chances will be of getting into a house i really like?

recs are a huge part of recruitment, you probably should have gotten at least one for every house if you didn’t.

Treat every house like you will potentially end up there, because there is a chance you will. I know that being a sophomore it seems like you know what will be the best fit for you, but don’t count out the other houses Bc you could be just as happy in one of them.

Having good friends in houses is great, but keep in mind that since they know you really well, they know if you will fit in. I had a good friend rush sophomore year and as much as I loved her, I knew she wouldn’t fit well in our house. Best of luck!

i understand what you're saying and thanks for the advice! there are three houses that i have friends in that i love and my friends in all those houses have said that they could see me in their house, so at least I'm over that hurdle

you gotta take what they say with a grain of salt, they're your friends, they don't want to hurt your feelings by telling you if you wouldn't be a good fit...
but it could also be true too! just don't think that because they said that you're a shoe in

you won't know until you get there but the best advice i would give is to relax and try to have good conversations and hope that your friends vouch for you for at least the first round.

I rushed as a sophomore, barely knew anyone in any houses, had literally like 2 recs (had 0 effect on my rush), had a good high school GPA but bad college GPA, was from far OOS, average looks, little involvement... preffed 2 top OR (didn't have recs for either of them or friends in the houses before) and 1 top NR house (I did have a rec for this one). I went from 16 houses, to 11, to 8, to 3 and I consider that to be a decent rush. Don't let people discourage you, I'm so tired of people acting like no recs or rushing as a sophomore is the end of the world! Just go in and have fun and you'll be totally fine. My advice is to stop worrying and just enjoy your summer and make your conversations count during recruitment.

thanks for the support and advice!! i think I'm just most worried because they took away the upperclassmen quota for this year so it makes me think that the sororities won't be nearly as encouraged to pledge sophomore's. thanks though!
