ranks only matter to high school girls and moms

Public Service Announcement:
Once you get here the ranks are thrown out the window. Everyone is too busy doing their own thing with their house, classes and activities.

Agree. Except there is a limited group ofsocial circles in primarily B'ham and Mobile - picture the women of "The Help" and their daughters - that are obsessively concerned with "ranks".
A daughter's errant placement would be cause for concern amongst this group.
Beyond that - ranks are meaningless.

And for the modern day MOMs of "The Help" there is one rank...
Would be impressed with AXO or Phi Mu.
Will be fine with XO, AGD, DDD, Kappa and (depending on the Mom) KD
Then there are just other houses.
Most MOMs (not in a regional social circle analogous to "The Help") just want their daughters to be happy and find their "fit".
And actives once initiated always prefer their own house to any other and will find friends in other houses based on individual merits, not house reputations. \n\n\n\n\n

This is a horrible example of your point. AXO and Theta are more alike than different. Actually away from GR you could put every single AXO and Theta in a big coctail party and no outsider from campus or other houses (except for friends of course) could accurately sort them. They both take kind, smart, pretty, personable girls and they both have some outliers (for different reasons).

Maybe first half of freshman year there is. But after that, no one cares.
