full cards and expectations

by: Active

I don't know if PNM's actually read this board or not, but I went through recruitment two years ago and the one thing I wish I knew was that not everybody, and seemingly very few, get full cards.

Not everybody gets invited back to the maximum number of parties each round.

Also wondering what others experiences were in this regard

I have no idea what percentage or the actual numbers, but in sharing cards with girls each round, there are a lot of cuts. Some girls had very few houses right after IWT.

I don't know if the changes this year are expected to change that.

I was from out of state and trying to meet new people. Thankfully had a good rush with full cards. I was excited and sharing with other girls in my rho chi and dorm floor. Had I known, may have been a little bit more reserved and kept it to myself.

It actually became a bit of a sore spot with my roommate and my rho chi group kind of split along the invite list differences that developed. \n\n\n\n\n

Thank you! Can I ask how far oos and what connections you had? Was it mostly gpa that helped with having a full card? I’m just trying to know what to expect

I'm OOS and my gpa was a 3.1. I got full cards back each round. I also have no connects and got into an OR house. I think if go in with an open mind and look excited you will be perfectly fine.

Invites back are dependent on the votes of the girls you talk to. It's no more complicated than that.

In getting such approval, there are going to be benefits to some things before you even open your mouth. This changes from house to house with some focused on grades some southern connections, and some looks, etc.

So, if you are from out of the region, and at an old row house, you may start with a bit of a disadvantage.

But if you are attractive and in appropriate clothes ( you don't necessarily have to spend a fortune, but there is "I look ") you will gain some ground. Not a grade risk, more ground.

But it is really going to come down to having a great conversation - seem friendly, make the active feel good about you and herself, and that you are a good fit for the house - and you'll move on.

The more houses you accomplish this at, the fuller your card.

That gpa won't take you as far anymore green zone for many houses is now a 3.3

Good point about the Rho chi group splitting between pnms by their relative confidence based on cards... and by houses they are feeling love from

I dunno something about this post seems a little false, mainly the part where she says she was from OOS and didn't know much about returns and how shocked she was that most girls got deep cuts. Yet she was the among the select group of girls that got full cards each round. Just my gut but I say she's "fake news."

I'm the OP and sorry you are suspicious.

Im from the Midwest. I had good grades, a good resume, can make conversations easily, (think I'm attractive too, LOL) and had family and friends of the family send recs - kind of randomly as I didn't know the reputations of houses but if they were alumn from a chapter at Bama had them send a rec.

For what it's worth, my roomate (who matched on line) showed up completely "blind" - no recs, etc.

And while I knew that recruitment was going to be intense, I really didn't know the details. Honestly, I didn't even really know all the Greek letters, and had to take notes to keep the houses straight - particularly early on.

If you recall that was a rough year with rain and delays - computer issues too.

I got to pref with two solid old row houses and one top of NR and got the house I had me eye on. I do feel very fortunate!

As you may expect , I did get dropped early by the what I would call two of the three most traditional "southern" houses, but one kept me for a surprising long time ( although they weren't my favorite). The two OR at pref were the ones most would say are most open to OOS.

And my card did include houses I rated low until pref, one of which just wouldn't "drop" until pref and one that was my legacy - my Mom went to a different school.

I came on here not to "prove" this happened but to note I was surprised by the deep cuts around me- and note that exposing such caused resentments.

Your comment suggests it "still is".

It really doesn't matter now, but offering advice to pnms to be prepared, either way.

I went 16-6-3-1 with full recs and a 3.8. PNMs the only thing you should expect is the unexpected

Okay that's the real truth getting full cards without having reached out alot is not the norm. And as I continue on in Greek Life going on 3YRS the RFM crew has things worked out so well that the amount of girls getting full cards is becoming smaller on top of the pyramid.

16-8-6-3. PC16 and it was a tough road but all worked out. Good luck PC18!

Comparison is the thief of joy. PS- to all the PNM’s saying hey. I have a 3.1 and I should be fine. That has changed big time. I went through recruitment 2 years ago, too. At that time, the only house that had a solid 3.2 cut-off was ADPi. The other houses had 3.0 or 3.2 suggestions, with flexibility. I had a 3.4 gpa and had 16-11-7-3. Now, many houses have a solid cut-off at 3.2 (some are 3.4) and really, they want higher.

I wonder if #8 was from Alabama, hmmm?
Just checking a theory or two 😊

I’m far OOS. I came from a well known private high school. I had recs into most houses. I present myself well when I go out. I have no idea what you’re theories are, but the current truth is that if I were rushing this year with my 3.4, I would probably have a very different (and lighter) schedule.

I was PC15 with 3.7, recs to every house, some connections, and I went 16-8-7-3.

OMG why are people pretending to have recs to all 16 chapters and they were so awesome that got so many return invites when the truth is the avg recs PNM send in is somewhere around 9-10 houses. Recs are f#ckin hard to get and not every alum you ask is going to be like "yay you're going to Bama lemme send yours right away". Especially when some older women haven't been active for years. Cut the sh#t including the OP who doesn't even realize she slipped in the first post.

I definitely did not have a perfect rush but I did have at least two recs to every house. It’s pretty common especially if you’re from the region to get recs for all houses. The south is literally crawling with sorority alumnae
