XO and PM do not have much once recruitment starts. They have active alums all over them leading up to recruitment and in rec letters, of course.

You don't know she was their "top PNM" unless you were on the AXO recruitment committee. Maybe she said she was their top, or thought she was, but honestly no one knows the real story unless they were in the room.

The pnm you are talking about was a top pnm but low grades and QR (according to busy-body alums in the house during recruitment), so she got cut and it split the house and drove some other top Vestavia PNMs to the waiting arms of Phi Mu. She went Kappa and has been fine. The QR stuff was fake news.

I had heard this was an issue at DDD but knowing people in the house I don't think it's the case as much now.

it means the girl you talk to may love you and want you as a sister but don't be crushed when you get dropped because she may have no say in whether you're in or you're out. the alumni pick the girls they want.

Being that all Alabama sororities rely heavily on alumni recommendations, I would say influence is great. That is not to say that alumni are in the room when the final bid list is created. However, if you don't think the alumni board isn't passing on info on to the undergrads on pmns of interest you are mistaken. They know when certain legacies of big alumni contributors are rushing and special attention is needed.

Each house has a recruitment committee and that committee will have at least one or two alumna who are on the committee and very involved with advising on all parts of recruitment, including list creation.

It would really surprise me if any new row houses (except maybe pi phi) have this. Mine definitely does not, besides like our chapter advisor

ALL the sororities pay attention to their alumnae recommendations, but in the end, the decision belongs to the girls in the chapter.
Now...did you get your recs? Or are you hoping to skate? If you come from an area with plenty of sorority alumnae and didn't get recs, they'll know you for what you are - lazy.
Or if you did something to make yourself stand out and not in a good way, be prepared for deep cuts.
