soph pnm rush experience
by: TransferI just transferred to Bama. Deciding if I should rush. 3.4 GPA. Not bad looking. Social, so getting to know new people will not be difficult for me. What are my realistic sorority options? And how many sophomores will sororities take? Do some not take sophomores? Just trying to brace myself for the experience. I cannot find a lot of advice or information for non-freshman. Thanks!

The houses are different in their approach regarding “upperclassmen”. Some will use the extra upperclassmen quota and some will not. Regardless, every house will have at least a dozen sophomores in their pledge classes. You will be fine as long as you keep an open mind to all the houses.

Between having friends rush as sophomores and being a rho chi with sophomores in my group, I think that rushing as an upperclassman is not a disadvanged at all!
To echo what someone above said, GET REC LETTERS that is the best way to set yourself up for success
Also get ready to talk about why you transferred and why you are rushing now, so make sure you put it in a positive light about being excited to be at Alabama and find a home without being negative towards where you left (not saying you feel that way or would)

Yes, just about every house will take sophomores but I wouldn’t say “at least a dozen.” My pledge class only had 5 or 6 sophomores. Being a sophomore is barely going to effect your chances, if at all. Most houses won’t cut you because of that.
