sorority reps..?
by: PnmWhat are the reputations of each of the sororities here? Which ones are the hottest and most fun? Which ones drink the most? Which ones smoke the most? Which ones have the best sisterhoods? Which ones haze? What are each of the houses known for?

Depending on where youre from, take the whole “phi mus are rich they have old money” thing with a grain of salt. A lot of the OR girls who claim to have so much money are tacky, talk about it, and also don’t really have that much money in reality... maybe compared to other people in their state... but Alabama is one of the poorest states. In reality they can’t compete with most people from other nice more expensive parts of the US (orange county, nice parts of NYC, ect.)

So is the only way to get into a good house to either be from a prominent Alabama family or really rich? Based on what was said above and things I've heard, I like kappa, tridelt, and pi phi. I kinda like zeta and Gphi as backups I guess but not as much as the other three. Obviously this is subject to change during rush, but idk how much I can trust that either because obviously all of the houses are going to try to make themselves seem better than they actually are. How would I (OOR from CT with no connections) go about getting a bid (in general, but preferably from those houses)? I'd say my family is middle-upper middle class for our area, idk what that translates to in Alabama money, or if it even matters.

middle class in Cali is still middle class here. Yea AL is poor, but that's because there are a lot of lower class families, the actual classes themselves don't shift.
if you consider yourself middle class in NY or where ever, the same applies here.
most houses won't judge you on that as long as they don't have any reason to think that you can't pay dues/stay at UA for 4 years.

@omg nope, a family living a comfortable “middle class” life in Alabama would never be able to afford the equivalent lifestyle in a big city on the east or west coast. Even if the classification is technically the same, what is generally considered middle class is not the same across the board.
If you consider yourself middle/ upper middle class and are from outside the south, you will be just fine in Greek life here

It says hot/social.... I don’t know any Kappas that try to pass themselves off as a looks house. They do have hot girls but they’re very laid back so always looking put together like Phi Mu is not a priority, hence not a house full of stunners. Social though, KD and Kappa are definitely very social, nobody’s denying that.

Older sororities here:kkg, ddd,agd and Kd. Long ago these were where the money was so they love to say old money.
There are SO many girls in KD and KKG today that are not old money. I know of families in debt to keep up with the demands of having the right clothes etc. it is pitiful. These girls live in nice ranch houses with a bit of passed down silver so they say they are old money. Kappa is pretty chill about accepting each other on merit. KD has a huge clique within and is disingenuous.
Tri Delt lets a mix in and doesn’t make those without pretend to be something that they aren’t.
Let me assure you that there are MANY girls in Alpha Chi and Chi O whose pedigrees would get them considered old money, even if the house wasn’t original old money. They had their choice of old row in rush and chose to be where they are. But the best part is , they DON’T care. They have other things going on. They don’t sit around bragging bc it’s really sad to think that matters.
Now when New Money acts tacky, that’s a different story. That is the case for sure in Several houses, including a white one. They have a lot of nice girls, but more focus on what my daddy does and being tan than anything else.

Very true. Prob better to think about ALabama old money more like Alabama “establishment” or from areas that have a lot of old name families — many, even those from the brook, are at most upper middle class. Those pnms cluster at xo kd kappa and a little bit AGD if they are very religious. There are many truly rich kids at Bama, but they are usually fl, va, tx or Cali and they usually go axo ddd pmu or zeta depending on fit and connections
