recs

Are rec letters as important for getting a bid as they're made out to be? If so, how do you manage to get one for every house with connections to only a few?

I mean I would of course try to get as many recs as possible, but I only had like 2 or 3 (and none for my house). Some houses require them for membership, mine included, but if the alumni and actives like you enough they will find you one. Just make sure you have a great resume and gpa, and you won’t really need to worry about them! No matter what, with or without a rec, you will find the home you’re supposed to be in. No need to stress!! Good luck :)

This is terrible advice. No recs will get you automatically cut from so many houses. Get them if you don't want this to happen. Alabama recruitment is too competitive to not have recs. Reach out to teachers, your friends' parents and your parents' friends, church members, parents' co-workers, your co-workers and organizational contacts, and don't forget that men know sorority women too. Recs are not necessarily the same as chapter connections; chapter alumnae recs are best but you if you can't get chapter recs you still NEED recs from ANY chapter alumnae to not be automatically cut.

It’s a pain to try to get a rec for a girl during recruitment. We have thousands of girls coming through and yes, if we really love the girl we will try to get her one. The girl above obviously has not been on the other side of recruitment. My mom writes 3-4 every year and now I’ve started writing some for other campuses. The forms are long and take time. But, from the house side, the earlier we get a rec in, the earlier we can start passing your info around. And, the higher you go on our lists. So, be good to yourself and to house recruitment teams and get us recs.
