small town al
by: PNMI’m from small town and attend a school in Dekalb County AL. There are not any private schools here. I have excellent grades and I’m involved in extracurriculars. I’m pretty- have been in a few pageants and won. Both my parents went to UA but were not Greek. Do I have a chance at OR and NR? I have friends writing recs for me but I’m not a legacy anywhere.

Obviously, everyone is going to mention the standard old row houses - AXO, XO, AGD, PM.
A surprising amount of small-town girls with strong grades who tend towards the artsier side go ADPi and Theta. This website acts like it never happens but if you actually look at where girls from X town in Alabama go, it's maybe 70% old row and 30% new row. That 30% exists, even in towns like Mountain Brook and Mobile, so it certainly exists for the girls from small towns. Just something to consider.
Get recs for everyone, keep your grades and involvement up, don't worry too much. Make sure all the girls who recently graduated from your HS and go to UA know that you'll be there in the fall. You'll be fine.
