can you be in a sorority and not drink?

by: help

I (embarrassingly) used to have a semi-serious drinking problem, but I've gotten help for it and am proudly doing a lot better. I've always wanted to be in a sorority, but with how intense it is at Bama, I'm figuring there's hazing and pressure to party heavily. Is is possible to be in a sisterhood and not binge drink? Are there some houses that would be better for me to consider with this outlook? Thanks!!

You're a 17 year old with a drinking problem....interesting. You should probably rethink going here to be completely honest.

Hi! Actually, I'm an 18 year old that unfortunately had a problem because of poor choices that I made early on in high school, but through my church, family, prayer, and treatment, I'm a successful, clean student that is excited to be coming to Bama! I want to join a sorority, and was just trying to ask a genuine question about the partying atmosphere. But thanks for the advice!

You should probably go to a Christian school or pledge ADX.

It's absolutely possible to be in a sorority and not binge drink. Even the party houses have girls that don't drink, albeit not as many non-drinkers. The known party houses are Zeta, Alpha Phi, Kappa, KD, and Tri Delt (to an extent). There are probably others, but every house has girls that party and those that don't

Jesus doesn't mind if you drink. Loosen up.

This is a party school. If you have had problems in the past, it is going to be hard not to relapse. Period. I do not drink but I never have. Most of my friends who didn't freshman year, started up over the summer. It's hard whether you are in a sorority or not.

You will find more girls who don't drink in adpi, axo, and theta. The rest are more party oriented. There's a Christian niche in agd and a tinyyyy one in xo.

If you have already had a problem, however, then I would suggest not coming to a school where temptation is everywhere.

That ^ is great advice. If you have had a true drinking problem, you will probably never be able to handle alcohol. Why chance it. And asking about binge drinking is odd, bc if you have a problem, you shouldn't be drinking at all.

Stay home, live with your parents and go to community college. That would be mature thing to do.
