All of the sororities in Alabama would love to fill their houses with girls who will turn into future chapter supporters. That means girls that have strong ties to stay in - state or close to in- state. But, we have these mega mansions. They cost a lot of money. So, we broaden our criteria to who would be a good fit for XYZ sorority. Most houses, including Old Row, have at least 25% of their members who fit in this category. These girls are not “filler”. They are a fit. And, they make life long friends and contribute to the progression of XYZ just as well, if not more so, than their in-state shoo in sisters. And, nationals are very happy to have alumnae members in good standing to help support whatever chapter of XYZ is near their future home.

YES!!! Thank you. As a sophomore in a OR house, I wish I could let y’all know how many PNMS from OOS (including non-southern) were on our tops list. We gave them just as much attention as any girl from Alabama. They still met our rush chair and president. They were still wanted and if they ended up in our chapter, it’s because we really liked who they are and thought they’d fit in well. Tons of actives are so happy to get these girls on Bid Day. I’m really annoyed with girls assuming that just because you’re OOS in an OR, you’re a “filler” and not wanted.

Really, if you have a great recruiting team you won't have ANY fillers. Most OOS women are high achievers who won scholarship
