I'd be creeped out as hell if someone just sent me a DM about being roommates. If you know nobody going to the school, let the school match you.

Get added to your class Facebook page and talk to people through that. You'll find lots of options.

Use the facebook page. Its not weird at all- most out of state people don't know anyone, and why would you want to room with someone you've known forever anyways?
