big sororities in the south
by: .I go to school in Texas, but my little sister is considering going to Bama. In texas, its all about PKT-pi phi, kappa, theta. Tri delt is also a big deal here. Generally these are the top chapters at Texas schools (UT, Tech, A&M, SMU, Baylor, TCU). What's the equivalent for Southern schools? I know phi mu is big. Anyways, just curious what the top chapters tend to be in Alabama, Tennessee, Mississippi, etc.

I'll try to breakdown the regions as I know them to mainly be, it'll be very general only for convenience. I'm from California, but have had siblings and cousins scattered.
The South in general: DZ's, ZTA, Phi Mu, DDD (mainly depending on where you're at), and some other scattered ones like the ones you mentioned.
The West: Alpha Phi is top nearly everywhere in CA, AZ, all the way to Washington.

Not at our school as much, but KD is huge in the south. Probably the most solid southern house. DZ is eh in the south. Phi Mu is okay in the South, it's their strongest region, but they're not one of the three strongest southern houses.
Overall it's probably KD, XO, DDD.
Pi Phi, Theta, and Kappa are not particularly strong in the South overall. They each have maybe 2 schools where they're really good, and then they're either middle or bottom at the rest. I think Pi Phi especially tends to struggle at SEC schools, and even most ACC schools. They're very popular when you get into Texas and west of there though.
