bid day

by: what if

I may be jumping the gun, but if i'm lucky enough to have at least three of my houses back for tomorrow, I will be happy. But i've been in love with one house since the beginning. what if i go there tomorrow but open a bid card and it is to one of my other houses. they are all good, but i just don't feel the connection like i feel in the one house. I want to feel all excited and happy on bid day. What have others done to help change my attitude and get over my disappointment quickly. I certainly don't want to cry in front of my new sisters. I don't want to sound ungrateful, but i'm sure some people were disappointed on bid day.

You're definitely jumping the gun. Wait until pref. Every house does really beautiful, intimate ceremonies. It's a completely difference vibe from the rest of recruitment. I'm not saying your top house will no longer be your top house after pref, but you may feel better about being in other houses too. Especially if you go to multiple pref ceremonies you will understand that EVERY sorority is incredibly special to its members, not just the one you like the most.

If your top choice remains your top choice, make sure you make this very clear to them. Tell them that this has felt like a home to you since day one. It will be taken into account.

If you don't end up in your top choice on bid day, be rational and think logically. You have just been offered membership into one of the finest sororities in the entire country. There are 400 girls excited for you to be their sister. Sometimes it takes effort to build a home. Be willing to put effort into yours and the rest will follow.

This happened to my best friend. She was in love with this one OR, cried during pref, felt at home there. She had 2 NR options as well who she didnt hate but she was just so in love with the OR that she wasnt considering them as much as she shoudlve.
During bid day she got a bid to one of the NR and she was so upset. She wanted to not go through with pledging but we convinced her to stick it out and now she is obsessed with her sorority!!
Good luck!

I will not reveal which sorority I am in, but the day before pref I was planning on dropping the house I am in now. I realized when I really comfronted myself about my list, I had realized I had picked my top three based on rankings and other stuff, not where I felt truly connected. When I went into the room to rank my houses I decided to go with my gut and I preffed the house I planned on dropping. The day of pref I thought I wanted to go Kappa. Like all day. I didn't end up going to my first house till 6 because of delays.. I went to Phi Mu at 6, then Kappa, even when I left Kappa was still positive I was going to go Kappa, then.. the very last house of the night.. I talked to this incredibly sweet girl I now call my best friend and I began to tear up mid way through the conversation because I could feel it was where I belonged.. PREF day it will all become clear as to where you belong

Honestly, you may click with girls during rush and not connect with the other sororities you have left but keep an open mind on bid day!! You could end up going on a retreat with your new pledge class and absolutely love them. Keep in mind, the girls that are recruiting you will not be AS close with you as your pledge class girls. So don't count the other two out yet! You could end up having a great pledge class in those.
