chronic illness and rush
by: PNM
This is really random and I hate that this is happening to me but I'm having a flare up of my chronic illness (Crohn's) and I honestly don't know if I have it in me to finish the process up...I've been loving recruitment so far, love the houses I have, and reaaally want to be part of a sorority here. I guess I'm just wondering like...if I drop, is that it for me? How would I even go about doing it? I mean Even if I don't drop, I still feel like I'm not putting my best foot forward bc I'm feeling so bad.

Well I don't know if you've already done this or not but I'd suggest to speak to your parents and your personal doctor from home. I don't know anything about this disease, but ask if there are any medications you can temporarily take? Or if your doctor can suggest any other ways to help you cope with your symptoms throughout the week?
If you can't get into contact with your doctor from home, the school's health center is open. Also, I know that if you request to have all your remaining parties on one day (like all your parties for sisterhood on one day rather than have them split on two days) then Panhellenic will let you... This is what girls who have orientation on one of the days during rush do. Obviously you need to have a legitimate reason as to why you can't participate for one of the days, however I think your health condition will allow you to do this. You should also ask if you can have your parties closer together as opposed to spread out throughout the day so that you can get home sooner.
I guess my advice aside from that is to relax, really rest up whenever you're not at the houses, and try not to stress out. You seem like you really want to be a part of this Greek system and I would hate to see you miss out. Keep your head up!

Thanks guys. Last night I talked to my parents and e-mailed my doctor made the decision to drop :( It breaks my heart but ultimately I'm here for school and I need to focus on getting well for classes and such...and even if I did make it thru rush and get a bid I was thinking that would I even be able to fully enjoy it if I was trying to juggle getting over the flare with classes and sorority life etc.? Probs not.
to any actives who might be reading - thanks for making this process such a great one (while it lasted haha) and I wish the rest of my fellow PNMs a great rest of rush!

Crohn's is basically where the immune system attacks the lining of the digestive system/intestines and causes inflammation so you get abdominal pain, fever, bathroom issues etc.
Obviously not really something I want to be broadcasting I have during rush haha
