score low & get out
by: pnmI have heard that active girls know they need to talk to certain pnms and score them low so they will be cut.. have any girls ever gotten a feeling that this happened to them? was the girl disinterested in conversation? did you feel like you had a chance?

When I rushed last year I definitely felt like the chances were stacked against me in some houses. I was OOS, I had a 3.5 unweighted GPA, a handful of very impressive extracurriculars, I had great conversations, however I didn't know anyone in any houses. That being said, after I left certain houses on IWTs I definitely knew I was going to be dropped... Which sucks. Especially when rush is made out to be this very humbling process where houses pledge girls that they know will better their houses. In reality, a lot of houses aren't looking for girls to "better" their house in terms of academics, involvement, leadership, etc. A lot of houses are just looking to pledge friends and pretty girls. I don't know how other houses score but I know my house is completely based on merit, so the higher the GPA, the more involved you are, etc. the higher we will score you. And if other houses score like mine, then certain houses are dropping A LOT of girls for no real reason.
Don't get me wrong, I love my house but rush can be so fake and superficial and it's sad to see houses purposefully sabotage a PNMs' rush experience just because they don't fit their "image" or whatever.

Y'all have to realize that we don't start from scratch on anybody. We do checking to extent possible and have a tentative view on some and stronger thoughts on others. IWT in particular is a round where we are just seeing if our preliminary thinking is in line with what we expected.

I think Rush is most difficult on girls who do not have a good sense of who they are and would like to be someone they aren't. Even harder on girls who believe they are something they aren't and expect to be 'accepted' based on a distorted vision of themselves.
What I mean, is if you are a girl from Illinois, cute, conversational and good grades and activities, with very nice working parents and you end up in a house of similar girls 'cause they are like you and you appreciate its a good fit, there are no tears (or anger/hate/resentment). For various reasons, this isn't a top house at Bama, but honestly it's full of wonderful girls. You'll have a great college experience.
In contrast, you are that girl but got all bunched up in ranks and have a "must" get in a house considered top on GR belief, but the house is full of monied Mobile girls - even though you have NOTHING in common with them - it's going to be tears, disappointment, anger and hate. If by chance you get "in", not sure it will be a better experience than above.
Be yourself girls. It will work.

yall are missing the point.
the point is that certain houses are purposefully scoring pnms lower than they should just to get rid of her. it's dishonest and not fair to the pnms. a pnm with good grades, good extracurriculars, etc who was able to manage a good conversation should not be let go after iwts... and that's not my opinion that's just how the logics of this process work out... grades, involvement, legacy status, etc outweigh a bad conversation and (if your house has this as an option) appearance.
certain houses are scoring pnms low to get rid of them because said pnms aren't pretty enough, southern enough, etc. it's sad.

How is it shallow? Houses HAVE to drop a certain amount of girls. They can't invite everyone back just because they didn't have a chance to get to know them. They invite back the girls they DO want to get to know better. That's not dishonest or sneaky or shallow or whatever you call it. That's just how it works.
Is it shallow for PNMs to know a house isn't a good fit for them after a 10 minute conversation? No. Then why is it shallow when houses know a PNM isn't a good fit?
#8 by: their loss
if a house is going to let a girl go because she's not from a select list of high schools or zip codes in alabama, but she was on an IB track in high school and has 100 service hours and holds a great conversation, then it's their loss. Other houses will scoop this girl up in a flash. is it "right" or "fair" that houses evaluate pnms on certain things more than others? maybe not, but membership selection is a part of ritual, so no one can tell a sorority to change what they're scoring based on. Besides, there's no way to really know what every single house is judging every pnm on. Most of this "deliberately low scoring to get pnms out" is speculation. I'm in a house that's constantly described as only accepting certain girls from certain families/areas of alabama and I hate coming on here and seeing everyone talk about how we only accept girls from ABC high school, because they have no idea what our MS looks like.

PNM intentionally drop perfectly good houses because of a perceived "reputation" or talk from some girls you just met in your rush group or stupid stuff people say on here. JUST AS SHALLOW.
PNMs don't give some groups a chance either. How is that any different? You intentionally put them at the bottom after the same 10 minute conversation. You don't know them either.
