Just to clarify, by 'everyone' I meant every house. Not every girl in each sorority. Most of the time just exec or the recruitment team will read them.

A "rec" can also be a "no rec." Say I am an alum and feel/know that you do not meet the character requirements of my sisterhood. You could have gotten DUIs, MIPs or got caught shoplifting. You are not going to put that on your resume, but the alum would feel the need to alert the chapter - especially if you are from OOS and not a lot of actives know you.
It could be as big as that or as small as the alum thinks the PNM is rude.

not likely!! There are 1000 other PNMs who were able to get recs that they also probably like.
Do not let a PNM think they are so special and well-liked that a house will go WAY out of their way in order to get them into their house.

Everyone reads them. Especially because occasionally we get negative recs. They give us more information on the PNM like hobbies she didn't put on her resume, or information on her family. The extra info about the PNM can help us match her to an active that she has things in common with. It's in your best interest to submit recs because if you're rushed by an active that has lots in common with you, she's more likely to rank you higher.
