Ok, really asking for a friend. Here is what worries me: she is very cute and will rush great. Has recs everywhere. I'm concerned that she will be good enough to make it past IWTs, cuts the houses that will pledge her, and then gets cut and is out in the cold.
I'm rushing as a sophomore and know something about this process but don't want to sound like a know it all. I think she should cut those that won't pledge her, but might keep her around a round or two
Thoughts?

I can only speak for MY house, which is a grades-focused house, and we wouldn't keep a 3.0 after IWTs unless we actually thought we could take her through the week. A girl with a 3.2, it's more up in the air, but there are so many girls with higher grades than your friend that we won't waste our resources on someone who scraped by in high school (...by our standards) unless we knew her very well and we knew she would not be a grade risk for us in the future.

I know one new row house treated as a low grades house, cut for grades after sisterhood. So all are different and low grades will impair her throughout.

Grades are the most basic thing houses cut for after IWTs. If a house is willing to keep a girl after IWTs with a 3.0 then chances are they would also be willing to pledge her (if she does rush as great as you say.) My advice to your friend would be to rank AXO/AGD/KKG/etc low immediately because those houses don't have spots to waste on girls that don't fit their grade profile unless she's besties with someone on exec or her dad is a CEO or something.
After IWTs she should rank them honestly.
Her biggest mistake would be ranking houses like DZ, APhi, GPB etc very low after IWTs because she thinks she's too good for them, when in fact those houses are the houses most likely to keep her. That's the mistake most PNMs make - they overestimate how many houses will ask them back.
