No one can say that the Uppervile/Middleburg areas of Virginia (and many others) are second to anything. Many families LEAVE Georgetown to live in these genteel areas. And it is definitely the Upper Crust--major executives and families of founders. Some living in Georgetown are in dilapidated houses just to keep that address. Phony!
Get off your high horse, Only people who talk and think like you are the problem. this is such the point of sororities looking at zip codes. They are clueless.
I don't know anything about Houston, but I do know Birmingham and Atlanta. There is classy Mountain Brook and not so much. Classy will say they are from Birmingham when asked and likewise Atlanta, not Mountain Brook and Buckhead.
Sororities who will say " well they weren't part of our high school group" or "they don't live in the right zip code" are living in a time warp and losing great girls. KD is so bad about this. I know so many middle class girls in KD, living in modest ranch houses, buying second hand clothes and talking about grandmas silver like that gives them class. It is pathetic. The rest of the KDs know this, and there are cliques. The whole thing is ridiculous. Parents are in debt trying to keep up for appearances.
I have a friend from Beverly Hills, who has never once told me she is from Beverly Hills. She always said L.A. I never knew til I visited her.
Grow up. It is ok to be middle class. Money doesn't equal class and it never will.

There will always be old money-- the ones with it don't talk about it. They don't judge others based on a zip code because they know there are some sucky people even in their own zip code. My gosh, I know some nouveau riche, judgmental girls in Mountain Brook.
I grew up in this environment. I don't care if you have money--I care how you treat others and how you would be an asset to the sorority.

I have never known any girl from Buckhead who identified as being from Buckhead; we all just say we are from Atlanta and only say Buckhead or our specific neighborhood when we are pressed in conversation. But I have known girls who do categorize people that way, and 100% the ones who say that someone is from Buckhead are insecure outsiders looking in. It just comes off as shallow and trying way too hard.

I just watched that new Flip or Flop show based in Atlanta on HGTV, and the first house they flipped was in Buckhead. They sold it in the high $600Ks. I was surprised, because I always hear how uber fancy and rich that area is, but $600K is pretty standard where I live (which is insane, if you ask me), and certainly NOT rich.
Goes to show that zip codes mean nothing since there are wealthy and non-wealthy people in every area.

I also know a lot of KDs who don't have the money they pretend to have. They pledged bc they were legacies or because they thought being a KD with some sisters with money would make them seem that way. But the fact is, the two don't mix and the old KD money knows the difference. The old KD money doesn't mean they are classy--just rich. And let me assure you, times have changed and 1/2 of Kd and Kappa are not rich. And that is FINE. Just don't think you are all that or out your parents in debt. That is also social climbing parents' faults too.
This is why these no longer get the best all-around girls. They are too caught up in appearances to be active and fun and accepting.
I think AGD is even worse in Mountain Brook bc they are so caught up in getting MB that the reputation doesn't even matter. They get the leftovers so to speak and these girls are so caught up in OR, that they go in and act like they are better than anyone. Let me assure you, they were cut by the others unless they are the legacies (really great agd legacies).

I love this thread. Have thought/felt this way and happy to see others agree.
I think the houses with the wealthiest girls are most definitely not Kappa and KD. Those girls talk about money all the time. And we all know that those who talk about it are the ones that don't have it.
