You'll have the opportunity to go out a lot. Lots of swaps, fraternity parties, and date parties. You're not allowed to go to bars or go upstairs in fraternity houses though. Some houses have rules against shacking

Okay, so I can't go upstairs in the frat house, but I can go to a guy's room if he doesn't live in the house? Can I bring him back to my room (assuming the ease of such things in a dorm and my roommate not being around? I'm just asking so I know whether to tell my Sophomore boyfriend who is in a frat house, that he's on his own for a while until I am initiated.

yeah, you can bring a guy back to your dorm or wherever, you just can't go upstairs/stay the night at a frat house.

and PSA to all PNM: don't think word won't get around. lots of guys talk, lots of guys are friends with sorority girls... word always gets around.

In my house all the same rules apply. I was kinda bummed not getting to go to the bars but in hindsight it wasn't so bad. Everyhouse does have a few specific rules. And never EVER drink in your letters.

I transferred to bama from a small school with no football culture and honestly the drinking in letters thing still amuses me. like we are all so clearly drunk and wearing our letters on a pin! how is this allowed! i roll with it because it's fun but it took some getting used to.

LOTS of houses have no shacking and some actually do enforce it in certain circumstances, but either way word gets around trust me. There's a few without that rule and those that don't just have a rule against shacking in letters, but pretty much every has:
1. No elevated surfaces
2. Smoke cigs sitting down with your legs crossed (idc if you didn't smoke before college it's so prevalent at Bama a rule was made)
3. No upstairs in frat houses
4. No bars

I think elevated surfaces are frowned upon in every house at all times but you won't necessarily get punished for it as an active unless you do end up on old row or something.

5. No hand-jobs in Bryant-Denny Stadium (BDS) during a game (disrespectful to Coach Bear Bryant)
6. No bathroom proposals in BDS
7. No bathroom proposals in NR houses - OR houses are OK
8. If doing any of the above - DON'T wear letters
