in state nr and oos or

by: Q

A friend active in a NR house was telling me NR houses are making a big effort this year to go after Deep South and in-state pnms, while OR are moving toward more OOS that fit them. Is this a real thing? Can the NR really recruit Deep South pnms with a recruiting team filled with actives that are not seep South?

There's a focus for OR to pick up more OOS and NR to pick up in-state and neighboring states. The question is...can it happen? Not likely!

This has been the situation for past couple of years. The presence of non southern oos has become more scattered to include old row houses. I have not seen new row make progress in getting more Deep South but the numbers of non southern oos just keep climbing, don't know if it is even possible

All the "growth" at UA is OOS.

OR needs to fight harder for good OOS girls, a lot of them go NR because they feel more welcomed and don't feel like they'll be a filler girl. The reason KD and AGD are falling is because they're so stuck on only wanting souther girls. AXO, XO, and KKG in particular are doing really well with OOS PNMs. PM and DDD are somewhere in the middle.
NR will have a harder time getting Deep South girls than OR will have getting good OOS girls because most southern girls have an "old row or no row" mentality, even if they'd actually be a better fit in some of the NR houses

It's just my personal opinion that XO is not doing as well with the top OOS girls as they could be and if they don't get it together I can see DDD surpassing them in addition to AXO and KKG. PM struggles to sell their brand to OOS girls but really XO could easily push harder.

The struggle for pm is more non southern oos. They are packed with Southern state oos. If anything they struggle to get the top in-state Bama pnms

Why do or house feel instate girls are superior to oos? Seems to me with more than half the student body coming from out of state there have to be many oos girls that are as good if not better than instate pnms. People seem so stuck on old traditions that many oos girls get overlooked and feel unwelcomed by old row houses. Is this ever going to change or is that wishful thinking?

This has been discussed extensively in a recent thread but there are 2 big reasons why girls from Alabama and surrounding states are more desired:
1. We already know and are friends with many girls rushing, we know their reputations and know if they have the financial security for 4 years of a sorority. It's easy to fill a class with girls you already know and like.
2. We need to keep retention up, and girls from around the south are so much more likely to stay at Alabama for all 4 years because they already know they like the south and they're less likely to get homesick. Students from hundreds of miles away come for various reasons but many end up transferring or dropping because they hate the south or didn't understand what southern sororities are about.

At the end of the day, there are 9 new row sororities that are predominantly OOS and maybe 4 or 5 that are predominately non southern. Old row sororities will take the cream of the crop OOS but for the rest it's not like you're not going to find a home.
