filler girls

by: pnm

I don't get the whole "filler girls" thing. So if I'm a PNM who's decently pretty and has great grades but is nothing spectacular, does that mean I'll have a mostly full schedule? From my original understanding, I would be cut from a lot of places early on because I don't have connections. But now I'm thinking I could have a full schedule just due to my grades and "won't get in your way" personality alone. The lower tier houses will want me, and some of the upper tier houses will want me as filler. I feel like that's not true lol so I should reset my expectations.

The only real filler on the good OR houses are legacies. KD, tridelt take as filler connected pnms that were released by the top OR (like grade risk, personality or reputation issue)

I went an old row house with no connections as a "filler girl" and I can say that while the southern girls run exec and the sorority, I still love my house. I was recruited by the OOS girls mostly and they wanted me in their sorority, not as a filler girl. I've made real genuine friends who also would be deemed filler girls, as would the majority of my pledge class. I still feel wanted and I wouldn't change my decisions during recruitment for anything. Just a different perspective

Basically what I'm trying to say is even though I'm not a core MB girl and on exec, I can still love my house. There are 400 girls, not everybody can be on exec anyway. And if I wanted to, I'm sure I would be able to find a position to do more in my house and get involved. Girls wouldn't shun me for wanting to help improve my house just because I'm not from Alabama. I don't FEEL like a filler girl is what I'm tTying to say

that's a lot of explaining above. but my question is then, from your own words, are you not allowed on exec because you are out of state? is it not done democratically? or is it a mini-machine?

you are obviously a chi o. Don't think the others operate like that.

what kind of sorority tells you that you can't be on a exec?

The in-state girls are often the most "into it" and they have broader networks in the house to get elected

this is true, most of the out of state girls who go OR don't care enough to run for positions, and the girls who are from the south just are naturally more "into it"

Anyone is allowed to be on exec it just tends to be girls from Alabama/southern oos. I have no desire to be on exec but I'm saying if I did make an effort it would be welcomed. I just wanted to say this because I feel like a lot of people on this site think that if you're a "filler girl" then you're basically nothing in/to your sorority and you don't matter, but that's not how it is in my experience
