I don't believe that's true. Always thought Phi Mu it was high because of the White house fine

Also, is it true that Panhellenic is requiring more disclosure?

Seems to me that expected costs should be published before people sign up for Rush. It might stop the dropping if they know they can't afford it beforehand.

They are in greek chic. which yes isnt published usually until after registration opens up, but they are disclosed. you can choose not to sign up until you look at what you could be paying.

You will find out during philanthropy! Houses are required this year to give estimates of dues.

Alpha chi really is highest, they do all inclusive billing. Theta is the lowest. But In general, the newer the house the more expensive. It's just a fact. But honestly, if you can't afford $5000 a semester don't rush and take some other girls spot because even if you have $3200 in dues, you're gonna have a ton of other stuff to pay for. And yes they sororities will disclose cost on philanthropy. Figure out now what you can afford now.

Y'all will need to keep in mind that sororities don't do the same meal plan and stuff as non-greek students so hopefully the information provided on dues/costs will show only the true additional costs out of pocket from greek non greek.

I'm in a mid tier new row house (with a new house) and our dues as a freshman were just under $7,000 for the whole year. That was everything minus philanthropy fundraising which totals to no more than $100 per year. I always though we were mid range in pricing so idk why people are saying $5K a semester. I thought alpha chi was $8000 a year

According to the Panhellenic website:

In House - 15,200 high, 14,000 average per year
Out of House - 8,200 high, 6,800 average per year
New Member - 5,500 high, 4,000 average per semester

So the average freshman girl is spending 7,400 on dues. That's pretty far off from $5,000 a semester.

I think people tend to overestimate because there's a lot of pressure to spend money on other sorority-related things like tee-shirts, cover charges for parties/pregames, theme clothes/party clothes/makeup, going out to eat with sisters, what have you. All of that can cost a LOT of money REAL fast and maybe you wouldn't spend so much of it if not for your sorority, even though none are part of your dues. There is a general attitude in Greek life, especially for freshmen, that you should be able to spend money on EVERYTHING that comes up or risk feeling left out. Even PNMs that know the costs can feel intimidated by the culture of money/excess and drop because they know after dues they won't have as much to spend as everyone else.
