how do the rho chi groups work?

by: pnm

Never having gone through this experience before, how does it work being part of your Rho Chi group? Are you with that group of girls the entire week, and if so, what happens if some girls are not invited back to a sorority? Do they wait outside for the rest? I'm a little confused by the process!

Very curious about this as well. Seems almost cruel to make some girls wait outside if thats what they do. Especially if those girls wanted a house that they were dropped from.

Also, about how many pnms are in each group?

You will be assigned to a group number. Each group number has about 100 girls. Within each number group, there are about groups of twenty assigned to a Rho Chi, so there are about five Rho Chi's in each numbered group. All of these groups are done out alphabetically by last name btw. So each numbered group has a tent set up, and every morning you and the other 100 girls in your group will meet there. You will find your designated Rho Chi and get your name tag and your schedule for the day. Obviously the first two days are IWTs, and every has a full schedule. IWTs are the only days where you are with this specific group only when going into the houses. After IWTs, the groups that enter houses together during rounds have girls from all different original groups mixed together. And you only attend the parties you are asked back to, so no, if a girl is dropped she does not wait lineup and wait outside of the house, she simply just does not attend that party. During any breaks (times where you do not have a party but there are parties occurring) you wait at your original tent with the five Rho Chis and whatever other girls in your original number group that also have breaks.

I want to also mention that a lot of people meet their good friends in their Rho Chi groups. It's a great way to get to know girls and it's so cool to have friends in so many different houses. I met one of my best friends in our Rho Chi group and she's in a completely different house and we're actually living together this upcoming year. So utilize your Rho Chi's and the other PNMs! Strangers are just friends you haven't met yet!

They do, but they're not big. So when people say prepare for the heat, they mean it, because you essentially will be waiting in the heat all done up for at least one third of the day. It's also a great idea to bring small, handheld fans. Bring water, snacks, and towels to sit on.

Don't get too close to the fans if you have long hair. The Rho Chis share a story about a PNM who got her hair caught and it was bad. The personal battery operated fans are clutch! Again, watch out for hair getting caught (this happened to me). I loosely banded my hair in a pony bun while resting at the tent. I want to say even if you have a full schedule, you will have breaks to hit Starbucks and rest at the tent and get reunited with your phone.
