ideal pnm and oos
by: curious
What makes a pnm a great pnm?
How important are recs and which houses care the most about them?
I'm in state so this isnt a problem for me, but what is the deal with certain houses only wanting in state girls? There are way more oos girls than in state and honestly I would have thought that the sororities wanted more variety... I just don't understand how oos pnms aren't considered as good as in state pnms to some of the house. What are the benefits to having more in state actives and pledges?

I don't know how many more times we can say this:
GET TWO RECS FOR EVERY HOUSE. Just because an alum says she's writing one for you doesn't mean it always happens.
Top PNMs: high GPA (over 3.5), involved in high school, good reputation, social, looks, style, easy to talk to, etc.

A top PNM among all houses is a girl who has good grades (at least a 3.5 unweighted but should be higher), strong involvement in various clubs and extracurriculars throughout high school, clean reputation, decent looking (you don't need to be a model to be a top PNM), fun (you're smart and focused yet know how to party), polished outfits, social graces (nice, polite yet warm when spoken to).
What makes a top PNM for OR:
- Strong friendships and connections with actives in the house, from a certain area in AL.
What makes a top PNM for NR:
- Very attractive, very social but not sloppy, outgoing.
As much talk about top PNMs there is on this site, the margin of those types of girls who rush is very small. Thousands of girls rush, the majority of them are pretty average girls. That being said, you know if you're a top PNM for either OR or NR houses. Most top PNMs for OR go AXO and PM and most top PNMs for NR go PBP and ZTA. But there's a huge difference between the two. OR houses, like AXO, PM, KKG, look for completely well rounded girls. NR houses like PBP and ZTA are willing to look past grades/reputation/involvement for appearances.

Never thought about it this way before, but ....
old row can go after more depth relative to grades, reputation, personality and wealth because they are focused on in-state girls and can find a lot of contacts and references to understand these things about the PNMs
New row has to focus a bit more on appearance, as it is harder to understand the "personal "details of PNMS Who come from across the country

I know deans list and presidents list and girls on scholarship in zta and aphi. Lots of them. So don't get the wrong impression from this thread. The grade risks aphi and zeta take (and there are fewer of those than you may think) are people you might not expect. Girls look and act smart and have a 3.0. Girls you think are just wild beautiful party types have a 4.0. Don't buy the old stereotypes of the dumb blonde lol. Yes the house averages of aphi and zeta are closer to the all women university average than Axo and xo and theta. It does not mean you are talking about something that is even discernible to somebody though.

I've heard that last sentence before, but is that really true? Given a not-too-bright, silly but beautiful girl, and a average beauty with intelligence, PBP and ZTA would take the former over the later? I mean, yikes.
