I didn't know anyone in those houses (besides KD but it was a weak connection) and I knew I wasn't from a place they recruit from, although I'm from the south. I was also a little overweight when I rushed so that was another strike against me. For reference I was cut from all three after IWT.

I think the reason why a lot of girls usually feel uncomfortable or unwelcome in certain OR houses is because those houses tend to go after a very specific type of girl. On this site, a lot of people talk about how every house takes in OOS girls, which is true, but you need to be extremely well rounded for the most part. Since more than half of our school is OOS, most coming for the Greek life, a majority of girls who rush are inevitably from OOS... And most OR houses don't care too much about them. I don't mean that to sound mean lol I just don't know how else to phrase it.
I'm from the North and I'd say I was a slightly above average PNM (good grades, good involvement, but no connections). That being said, I could really feel the disconnect between certain girls in certain houses because of my zip code. I knew that the house wasn't interested in me by the they were speaking, the way they were standing, the way our conversation flowed, etc. However, I will say that not all OR houses are like this. Personally AXO, XO, and DDD all made me feel appreciated and wanted even though all eventually dropped me.

How did they make you feel unwelcome? I'm not bashing, this is an honest question. I really want to know....
I guess I'm shocked because I can't imagine going into anyone's house even if it's just rush and them going something so blatant to make me feel unwelcome.

im not the op for this comment but i also felt unwelcome in KD... i think you can really tell when a house already has an idea of whether or not they want you, and for KD and PM that's how i felt. even in the other houses i got dropped from after IWTs, the actives were still extremely personable and really tried during the conversation. in KD the girl i spoke to wasn't listening as intently as girls from other houses, she was standing pretty far back from me which was weird because most actives tend to get as close to you so they can hear, and she also just seemed like she was talking to me because she "had" to. the girl in phi mu seemed slightly more interested, but the same applies.

The girl I spoke to was looking around the room the entire time. When I would finish my sentences there was always an uncomfortable amount of time before she would respond, almost as if she wasn't even listening to when I was done talking. It was very evident that she had no interest in me being there.

Well hey I'm glad I wasn't the only person who experienced this. I think KD has a problem with wanting typical KD girls- from a certain area, with a certain look to them, dressed a certain way, and if you don't have anything to offer to them then they won't even give you the benefit of the doubt. And they make it known. They need to work on being friendly to ALL of the pnms during the first, regardless of whether they want you or not. It's common courtesy.

@AA - I would actually rather them be as they are. That way I know where I stand and can move on to the next one :-) Yes, they should all be friendly, but it's sometimes nice to know where you stand. Of course, hind sight is 20/20.

I am northern oh OOS
Got to pref with one top old row, one second-tier old row and one top new row house.
But out of the gate, KD and XO clearly had no interest. However, I didn't have any racks for these houses. Had Rex for all the houses that I went to pref. with. My experience makes me believe the recs matter
Have gotten to know some KD's and do really like them.
Haven't really connected with any XOs in the last year
