greek life

I wish this wasn't true, but this website-its nastiness, gossip, and pettiness- is an accurate reflection of Greeklife here at bama. It's not that sororities are rivals, but the sisters are rivals with each other. For example, it is common knowledge that Phi Mus are super mean to each other and the southern girls in Kappa dont talk to the non-southern girls... etc. Plegde classes are too big for the girls to bond, so it gets extremely cliquey.
The people I know who are the most unhaply and who transferred after first semester or after their freshman year were all in sororities. This isn't the case always, but I'd say for 90% of girls they soon realize Greek life is a waste of time and money. It's usually a good fit for southern girls who have expected to join a sorority their whole life, but if you're not that, just be warned, it's not that great. Sorority girls are known on campus to be rich and that's about it. Those who aren't in Greek don't look up to y'all or think you do any kind of good.
I don't want to be negative, but this is stuff I wish I had known before I had rushed at Alabama.

Joining a sorority changed my life, fullstop. I love my letters, I love my Panhellenic community, and I LOVE my sisters with everything I have. I'm sorry that your experience has been different but for me, a middle class girl from the north seeking sisterhood and support, my sorority experience has been nothing but joy and positivity.
Is it perfect? No. Has it made me a better person? 100%.

honestly you sound like a sad gdi. you sound like a poster child for bernie sanders. you sound like you think tuition should be free and that greek life is paying for friends.
just shut up. there's a saying that goes around that goes "from the outside looking in you can't understand it, form the inside looking out you can't explain it." you have no idea what some of the sisterhoods are like here, even if 20 actives from one house tell you its a certain way, you still have absolutely no idea how everything truly works. and this site is especially good at fluffing up rumors that hold little to no truth. are there girls in some old row houses that you mentioned that don't get along with their sisters? yes. but the side you don't see is the majority of the sisters who would do anything for eachother.
greek life is an amazing thing. having 400+ girls who would do anything for me just because we share the same letters is something I'm appreciative for everyday. people like you are those who give greek life a bad rep.

You. A "middle class" girl can't afford a sorority at Alabama. Dues start at what, 3k? The lack of awareness!!! Great example people. And yes, sororities can be great for some, but there are plenty of opportunities for charity work, friendship, and leadership positions all over campus.
