alpha phi

by: Annie

Im from the north and all the "best" houses up here are Alpha Phi.. But I heard that is not that case at Alabama? Would that be considered bad if I was one at Alabama? They're recruitment girl is a kinda scary looking but other than that I thought they seemed cool and fun! I dont want to have the wrong idea going into recruitment.... advice anyone??

Just go through recruitment and find out if you like them for yourself?

If you go into recruitment with opinions based on things you read on Greek rank you're going to have a pretty rough time.

Alpha Phi is great in their own way, just like every house on campus! At Alabama we are blessed to have a great greek community (despite what you see on this website). Keep an open mind during recruitment and just see who you like!

So true! Despite all the rankings you see on here there are not bad houses. There are houses that are best for you and houses that aren't a good fit.

I'm from the North too and Alpha Phi is definitely not the "best" house. They do have some pretty good, strong chapters here and there but definitely not the best by far and they all have the same type of reputation.

Regardless though, you should never pledge a house just because it's popular back home because no one cares. Your friends from high school aren't going to be impressed nor are your parents. Pledge the house YOU feel more happy in, whether it be Alpha Phi or not.

Don't hate they're top tier on the east and west coast more consistently than any other chapter - being hot party girls is what makes them top at schools with less intense Greek systems

Yeah but I wasn't hating... If you read what I said, I actually stated that girls should go whatever house they like most, including Alpha Phi. I never said anything negative about them lol.

And you're wrong about Alpha Phi being a top house more consistently than any other house. I'm not a Theta but I know they're a top house at big state schools and Ivies in the North, they're top at big state schools in the MidWest, they're top at big state schools on the West Coast, and they're top at big state schools in the South and SouthEast... But yeah keep lying about how APhi runs everything.

You are definitely a Theta. Ivies don't count bc they have like 3 sororities each. Kappa and APhi are top in the north and Midwest. There was a thread about it a while ago. I'm from the north and they are most definitely top.

I'm from up north too and i know that is good at PSU, delaware, syracuse etc. however there the sprproties aren't ranked based off of involvement and grades. it is all looks/who boys want to party with the most. alpha phi at alabama is very looks oriented. definitely party girls, and all girls that could fit into an alpha phi house up north. if ur pretty, shallow, and materialistic then you will love this sorority.

If this crowd on greekrank ranked the way northern and western schools rank, the top three here would be PM, ZTA, Pi Phi and A Phi. In that order. We have an old guard and a different way of thinking about sororities at Bama so we actually consider things like grades, involvement, reputation. This also may tell. You why so many northern pnms want or glad to pref the top new row.

"If you are pretty and shallow"...what a rude thing to say. So they are pretty. Does that necessarily make every one of them materialistic and shallow? Same with ZTA and Phi Mu. Don't be so judgey.

I don't know about this first post above. APhi has some stunners. Maybe the most. But they fall off pretty fast at about half way down their list. PM goes deep with good looking girls and the only average lookers are usually legacies they had to take. I agree with you on ZTA, I think. To me, they get a lot of stunners, but also will be impressed by humor and style. They are trying to improve on grades and reputation, so I hear. Everyone wants more in-state if they can get them and maintain good appearances for the boys and avoid awkward girls.

LOL y'all can keep talking about how good certain sororities are at different schools across the country but this is Bama. Just because Alpha Phi is "good" or "top" at other schools doesn't mean that that automatically boosts them up. I'm not trying to hate on APhi because every house is good in someway, but y'all need to stop worrying about other schools because it's just a waste of time. No one cares if certain chapters of a sorority are good where you're from... If they're so good then why don't you stay in your hometown and pledge that chapter.

Probably because pi phi has a really good national reputation.

A lot of the schools in the North where APhi is a "good" house are much better academically than Alabama and harder to get in to, so the girls in those houses are probably already smarter and more well-rounded than the "best" girls at Alabama, no matter what house they're in. It's just assumed that everyone is smart and involved, so you have to rank on something else. Just join the house you feel most comfortable in. Don't worry about the rank or what's said on here.

No, actual most schools where Alpha Phi are the "top" house are big state schools, like Alabama. Yeah there are a few more rigorous schools that APhi is good, but for the most part, APhi "top" chapters are just at big state schools.

Yes they are big state schools but are much harder to get into and have a better academic reputation. At many big 10 schools alpha phi is towards the top and every big 10 school is harder to get into than Alabama. So alpha phi in the north is not taking grade risks because very few below a 3.3 even get accepted to the school.

Yall. Just go into rush and see whether or not you like them at Bama. It really doesn't matter what theyre like at other schools, because you're not going to those schools. It's really simple: go through rush and if you like them, keep them listed and ignore what everyone else thinks and says. Rush is about you and where you can see yourself fitting in
