sigma kappa colonization
by: ??How do sororities colonize? Like I get they have some of their reps come in for rush, but who actually rushes the PNMs?? Also do y'all think Sigma Kappa will be well accepted here? I know SDT tried formal rush multiple times and they just were not popular and I know other sororities have colonized here but also weren't popular and kind of singled out by the Greek community... Any thoughts?

Generally speaking a colonizing sorority forms some kind of exploration committee in the spring semester prior to their actual colonization and hold info sessions for current students that are interested in pursuing it (ie current sophomores/juniors looking to make their mark on something historic, current freshmen that don't feel like doing formal recruitment again, etc.)
SK will most likely not do formal recruitment in the fall although SOMETIMES colonizing chapters do the first round of recruitment so girls can get to know them, and then they drop out of the process. A few weeks after formal recruitment is over they will have another info session/open house for freshmen that didn't receive/accept bids or freshmen that didn't want to bother with the fuss of formal recruitment. Eventually women from (ideally) all class years will be given bids and the chapter will be installed.
Colonizing at Bama is difficult but not impossible and I think SK is prepared for the challenge. I think they could give some of the lower houses a run for their money if they work the right angle PR-wise. They need to get smart, attractive, involved girls that are intimidated by ~the largest recruitment in the country~ or really like the idea of having a say in how their sorority is run.

The key, IMO, is to recruit a COHESIVE group of girls instead of simply giving out bids to everyone that expresses interest. Organization, enthusiasm, and a common vision can do wonders for how a sorority is run and I think effective management + happy sisters = success. Is being the new kids on the block difficult? Yes. Is it even more difficult at a campus with Greek life as historic as Alabama? Absolutely. Therefore, SK needs to find a way to market themselves competitively and stick with it.
With the right leadership and the right kind of girl, I 100% believe that they can do it. I am SO happy they are coming to our campus and I hope every house at Bama wholeheartedly throws their support behind them. This colonization has the potential to help ALL of us, but only if we love our new SK sisters and cheer them on every step of the way. This can be a win-win situation if we show them the Panhellenic love they deserve.
