intimidated

by: Pnm

I know there are tiers, but it seems like all of the sororities have amazing, beautiful, talented, and smart women. And that is so intimidating. I know I'm supposed to be calm, but I'm kind of scared

Don't fear or worry. Joining a sorority should not make you change who you are or intimidate you. It is a time to be connecting with the women of each sorority and building meaningful friendships. You shouldn't have to worry because the sorority you belong in, that sees something special in you, will accept you into their organization with for who you are. Just be yourself and relax. Enjoy the experience.

I am little scared because of some girls from my high school did not have a great rush experience. One of our "stars" was cut from all the "top tiers" by pref day. She was so devastated that she dropped out of rush and eventually left Alabama and lots of academic scholarships. Her family is very upset and I am afraid that will happen to me!

Getting cut from all of the top houses might happen to you. Most girls on campus can't be in a top house. Girls usually do wind up in a house that's at a similar popularity level that the pnm was in high school. Good news is that you're right about all of the sorority having smart, beautiful, talented women. Go into the process with an open mind. I hated my house at first and considered dropping. I was a grade risk and convinced myself that I belonged with a 'better' house. Now, I love my sisters and I love that I wound up in the house I'm a part of. You'll find your place.

Totally not true. I know some girls who were not popular at all in houses like KD and Kappa, and some girls who were very popular in houses like APhi and DG. It all just depends, some girls are better at the recruitment game than others. Especially if you're OOS, it's easier to kind of create your own image.

Maybe the girls wanted to be DG or APhi. It seriously doesn't occur to everyone to even want to be in Phi Mu or AXO or KD. Nothing wrong with any of these houses but it is ridiculous to think that every person wants to be in a certain house. Sure, I've known girls whose mothers have basically moved to Tuscaloosa from Texas or Other states to make sure their daughters end up in the "right" sororities. I have seen girls wail when cut by a legacy house. But there are also really hundreds of girls who are just happy to find a home. They are popular and unpopular girls in every house.

If your only purpose is to come here and f-- a DKE, and other than college never leave your zip code, I can appreciate that it would devastate you not to get into a certain house.

Other than that there is ABSOLUTELY no reason not to be open to other houses.

For most rationale people, they are more fun, attract better guys, provide friends from many places and offer a great experience.

Literally every sorority is going to provide you friends, academic support, the ability to meet new people, date parties/formals, and alumnae support for a lifetime. If you only want to be in a top tier sorority then as they say on The Bachelor, you're here for the wrong reasons.

OP - don't worry. You seem self-aware and sweet. I am sure you will find a home here if you keep an open mind and prepare properly.
