You're not going to get a bid from KD, being from the north. They pref Alabama girls.

Alpha Gam is a possibility if you have high grades, high involvement and some connection to someone in the house.

Phi Mu will take you if you're a pageant girl with decent grades and flashy/showy with your money (vs old money at KKG, KD, XO and DDD).

Pi Phi is a good option for northerners. If you're cute, fairly smart and outgoing, you might get a bid.

Gamma Phi is up and coming. A good option to keep in your back pocket.

AOPi is considered a lower tier house, but not a bad house. Another good option to keep in your back pocket.

There is absolutely nothing different when it comes to new or old money here. Sororities here are too big - they only care about money or no money. The days of super exclusive social clubs are long past. Many Northerners come here just to party, and they're paying OOS tuition. They ARE the rich party girls where they're from, so they fit in well with Kappa. Rich Northerners > Middle Class Alabamans every single time.

On that note, KD does get the most old money Alabama girls, but they also have tons of girls from small towns that no one knows. Maybe they've seen how well Kappa's done and try to do the same by taking more wealthy OOS.

If you're from the northeast forget KD and AGD. I couldn't find a KD or AGD to write me a rec. Phi Mu will be tricky too. Best bets for northern girls are
Adpli, Pi Phi, GPhi and even DG! I mean this honestly. I was only called back to two old row houses and then dropped. I preffed ADPi, GPhi and DG and I'm not alone. Northeastt girls often land in these houses. Just trying to set expectations for northern PNMs. Yes...there are exceptions but don't count on it. Hope this helps and good luck to you!

Another northeaster here, I think KD's presence in the northeast is underrated and being from PA it was very easy for me to get recs because they have older chapters at both Pitt and PSU. Of course, I didn't end up going KD, but it made me feel like I was actually maximizing my chances to have recs for them anyway. I agree that Phi Mu and AGD are tough to find. I also struggled with AOPi. But you'd be surprised how many women you know are actually Greek, so start asking around ASAP!

If this helps, I'm pretty academic. I have a 3.86 gpa unweighted with 8 ap classes throughout high school, 33 superscored act and a pretty good sat score. I have a very good resume (accepted to Johns Hopkins) but Barely any, if that, connections bc I'm from the north. How do I a) make connections quick (no contact period starts in like a week) or b) stand out so I get a bid.

If you have the right "look" for a house, you can fit in. Check each groups tumblr and insta pages to eee where you'd fit.
To find recs, ask teachers, parent's friends, etc... you can also google and email alumni groups in your area for help.

You are accepted at Johns Hopkins and choosing Bama instead. This can not be true. Are you high?

This bashing Bama academics is tired and repeats often. Tells me this person is a troll.

In response to the person asking why someone would choose Alabama over a "high caliber school," you are truly an idiot and obviously you do not attend Alabama. Countless students who were accepted to very prestigious schools choose Alabama because it offers incredible scholarships. I don't know why you're trying to make this girl feel bad for picking Alabama... chances are it was not a choice made for her, but instead a choice made for her family so that her parents would not have to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars. But I guess you wouldn't understand that because YOU SUCK!!!!

The laundry list of ADPi, PPhi, GPhi and DG is misleading

Yes, these houses have a notable percentage of non southern OOS.

But you are not going to be excluded from other houses

Recs are needed,,AND if you fit the profile of the house you can get a bid - recs don't have to be from a known Bama alumni.

I am not big on ranks, believing house selection is a personal preference with every house offering strengths and weaknesses, but some houses are able to pick from the girls who posses most of the characteristics they seek.

If you have the characteristics a house is looking for - some combination of looks, wealth, grades and charm (and for AGD Strong Christian beliefs) you can get a bid.

I know someone from the north in houses proclaimed here to be "impossible for northern OOS". So despite claims, it isn't impossible.

Our northern area has had at least a dozen women attend Alabama during the past seven years, with five of them bid to sororities (three different groups). Your best bet during recruitment is don't over-act trying to 'get into the best house'. Being impressed by a sorority is different from being comfortable within one, and by pref night you should be able to tell that difference between your choices. Best of luck during recruitment,

I had a sibling at Bama and was told thow to set my expectations. One of the posts above sounds encouraging and positive and by all means do your best at every house but in truth many Old Row houses have pre-selected and targeted their next incoming PNMs. The sheer volume of over 3,000 girls rushing makes for tough odds to obtain a bid from several Old Row houses. This isn't meant to imply that I think Old Row is better than New Row but it is important to understand the process before you go through recruitment. Just enjoy the process and post above does raise a great point. Don't go to the "best" house necessarily. Go where you feel most comfortable. It makes a big difference after bid day comes and goes. Good luck!!

Every sorority will take some OOS girls, don't stress over it! Focus on finding recs and you'll be fine!
