grades

by: lol

Can we just address that aphi had a 2.9 gpa average last semester. Didn't realize having to take all the grade risks because all the hot, smart girls were already taken by other houses was hurting them so badly lol

I'm not in an APhi, but "can we address"?

It's hardly a secret. No on is denying it. It only posted about a thousand times.

No one needs the OP "to address it". \n\n\n\n\n

It is the same old thing on this site with the Alpha Phi bashing on grades. Ok, we all know they have the lowest grades. Not everyone cares about that. Different pnms have different priorities for their greek affiliations. If the approach they are taking works for them, who are you to say different? I guess they could say something like: oh man, can we address this, why AXO or something has the heaviest actives or whatever. It is what it is. Boys like them. They seem to like each other and have a decent thing going. Don't worry about them. Worry about yourself.

I completely understand that girls have different interests and priorities... Some girls come here and are really serious about their academics and thus want to join a sorority that holds those same values while some girls aren't as focused about their grades and want leeway to be very socially active. Regardless of PNMs' priorities, a sorority should always push their girls to be the best versions of themselves. No sorority should let girls push academics to the side just because they like to party. The social aspect of college is important, but there's still so much more than that. College is a time for also bettering yourself as a person and preparing yourself for the future... Unless your goal is to become a stripper then prioritizing partying is only hurting you.

What really gets me mad about these posts is that the list of FRATERNITIES with gpa's below 3.00 is quite long!

NOBODY EVER posts here that we should be concerned that these houses are party focused with their members likely to become male dancers!

So @HM, go spend some time reflecting on the poor state of the men related to academic work and success. And give some credit to the girls! Even the lowest grade averages are "respectable".

Table your hate.

But our school is letting people in with grades that will only allow them to rush certain houses. If they come here and they are already automatically excluded from certain houses because their high school gpa was lower than what a house takes, then they only have certain options anyway. And how does someone else's GPA impact you? If their average was 2.9 that means there were plenty of girls who got over that. Most of the girls in Alpha Phi are from the north and the north doesn't think much of an Alabama degree anyway. They will graduate and go back home with a college degree. Worry about yourself and leave Alpha Phi alone. Sounds like they're doing just fine.

You're acting like we're at Yale or something. A lot of people come here to party, especially from out of state. We're literally a safety school for a lot of people outside of Alabama, and we're definitely seen as a party school by people up north. So HOW is it that surprising to you that some girls (especially out of state girls) prioritize partying over grades? They wouldn't be here if they kept their nose in a book all the time in high school. You can't expect to hype up our Greek life and football and then somehow think all girls are coming here for academic reasons. No girl from Massachusetts or New Jersey is going to be like "wow I really think Alabama is such a prestigious university and they're renowned for their academics, I would pick them over NYU, Michigan, or even Ivy Leagues!" A lot of them literally end up here because they weren't star students in high school and they figure if they have to go to a less prestigious school, it might as well be one where they're going to be able to have a great time.

PNMs are not "automatically excluded" from some sororities because of grades. I can guarantee that some of grade floors have a lot of give to them when a super-duper legacy comes along, or some other PNM who they must take.
And that's fine. Sororities SHOULD be flexible in who they accept. It's their choice and nobody else's.

It is a fact that in an attempt to raise the academic profile of Bama that the University throws a ton of $$ at even moderately intelligent out of state students -- because even a modest 28 on the ACT gets a big ole scholarship for out of staters. Do you hicks actually believe that a 3.5 in an Alabama high school is the same as one in a NY, MA, NJ or CT high school where the state education standards are much higher to begin with ? What's the admission criteria for Alabama in-state students, a pulse? So stop acting like "grades" at Bama are the same as up
North or at Vandy, or Duke. You maw maws hate the pretty Alpha Phi's and the grades talk is just a distraction.

Last year 12 of Alabama's athletic teams had over a 3.0. Didn't realize those other teams taking all the grade risks because all the smart athletes were already taken by other schools was hurting them so badly lol

The school should probably ban the sports that didn't make a 3.0 because obviously they aren't recruiting high enough caliber students for you.

lol but athletes have talent and something they are contributing to the school. Being an airhead sorority girl isnt doing much for anyone besides paying dues

I see that this board is run by A Phi, amirite? A Phi likes to brag about looks but other houses also have beautiful girls who are smart enough to keep up with their grades. I think it's obvious that different houses look for different things. People in college are here mostly to learn something, though, so don't expect a house with 2.9 to have a great reputation. It's not bashing them, it's just saying that any house could get those girls but choose not to. That makes A Phi much less selective. That's just how it is.

We are at ALABAMA. Please GET OVER YOURSELVES. Nobody is going to look at your Alabama degree and think you're super smart anyway. You have a 3.8 at Alabama? That's great. But it's still Alabama. Y'all act like you're so intelligent and above everyone else because of your GPA when the reality is nobody is going to think that highly of your 3.8 Alabama GPA anyway. Give it a rest.

No, I'm saying that some of these people need to get off their high horses about grades. Alabama isn't some Ivy League, or even a top public school when it comes to academics. We all know this. So for some of these girls to think they're so above everyone else because of their GPA here is laughable. Employers aren't going to have their minds blown by any GPA at Alabama, or an Alabama degree in general. Like someone else said, this isn't Yale. They're going to ask you more about internships, work experience, how you got involved on campus, etc. Just saying.

Noting they have the lowest gap at 2.9 is factual and fair

Adding they are thus going to become strippers is not.

The context of this GPA IS very relevant.

Although the lowest gpa of sororities, the gpas of sororities in comparison to fraternities and the general student pospitlaion os very strong.

A 2.9 may not get you into mes school, but it is close the the typical college average and better than the frats.

How many times do you want to have it addressed? That is the question for the original poster. It's not like this is hidden or not known. Someone has to be at the bottom. And your point is!?

We look forward to you next bashing post after spring grades are posted, although I doubt you will be able to wait that long. I suspect they will meet the requirement, although that isn't good enough for you.

Sorry to burst everyone's bubble but, there are no GPAs on business cards. I graduated with a 3.8 but, soon realized employers didn't care and neither did anyone else after that point. It's basically something to make your parents proud or compete with other sororities. You get the degree. You get an awesome job with your personality and experience. And yes, some people go on to further their education. I have family who are Alabama Alums with lower GPAs than 2.9 who went on to medical school and are now successful doctors. GPA is not a measure of self worth or even future success. ....and no I was not an Alpha Phi.
