how it really is...fraternities and sororities

by: W.

I've been here for three years and as a member of what i have ranked as a middle tier fraternity i thought something at least remotely true should be put on this website. I'm not trying to say my rankings are 100% accurate, take them however you will but i tried to be unbiased. I just used everything i have seen, read, heard about, people i've met and people i've talked to, and just the overall impression i've gotten from every house. Coming from someone who is not Old Row, you'll still see a strong old row bias towards the top, this is because they are good houses and deserve that ranking. Every house has its good and bad, this is just an average, hopefully this can help someone trying to decide. Anyways, each tier is in random order, take them however you want, thanks.

Pi Phi, AGD and DG do not have a good national reputation. At most schools they are considered lower tier sororities.

Pi Phi is generally top or at least high tier in my experience and DG is usually good. Phi Mu is good in the South which has by far the best Greek life anyway.

You are so wrong about that. DG is very strong nationally.

Pi Phi and DG are usually top tier sororities. The sororities in the South that are nonexistant at the strong private and public universities are Phi Mu, AGD, AOPi. No one knows who they are. ADPi stuggles too at these schools, is bottom tier, but still has chapters at many top schools. Nationally - Theta, Kappa, DG, Tri Delt, Pi Phi are consistently the strongest and at all the top public and private schools.

Consistancy of who's top that your talking about isn't real, it is far more variable than you imply. Alabama, Georgia, Florida etc, all have those sororities at the top, and all of them are ranked in the top 100 universities, not to mention that you left out a lot of other very big strong national sororities like Chi Omega, Gamma Phi, and ZTA to name a few.

What's the point in trying to tear them down anyway? Seems like you're insecure that your sorority isn't top tier everywhere.

Phi Mu is a joke at Alabama now. Embarrasing! Mid tier on a good day.

Go look at the list of 100 best universities in America. The three sororities are all the top public and private schools are KKG, Theta, Pi Phi. Facts.

If you say any of these sororities have poor national strength you are on crack. The following are huge nationally with strong holds in a lot of places and great name recognition:
XO
DDD
DG
Kappa
Pi Phi
Theta
Zeta

Those for sure. Some more depending on region.

They Released the top ten national sororities on 08/06/2012

The Top Ten were as follows:

1. ZTA
2. DG
3. Kappa
4. ADPi
5. Chi O
6. Pi Beta Phi
7. KD
8. DDD
9. AOPi
10.Alpha Phi

So whoever keeps stating that ADPi and AOPi struggle and that no one knows them doesn't know what they are talking about. BTW Theta did not make the top ten.

That article was based on facebook and twitter likes. The ranking in the article based on amount of foundation philanthropy giving, something substantial, the ranking is much different:

DG
Theta
Kappa
Pi Phi

are the top four. ZTA is not at most of the top universities in the United States. FACT. They lost their charter at SMU, Oklahoma, Ole Miss. They have alot of chapters - but - at a bunch of low tier schools. They even lost their charter at their founding school in Virginia.

Nationally, but I sure as hell wouldn't say those four are the objective top four nationally (I assume you're a DG cause Pi Phi Kappa and Theta don't like to even include a fourth when they talk about how they're the best). At least when they made the fraternity rank article they based it on presidents, congressmen, businessmen, cheritable contributions and number of chapters (although they included a bunch of the multicultural fraternities that have like a million members and non-collegiate chapters).

But I do agree that the criteria used to compile that list were laughable.

actually isn't in that list of 4, but if you rank from the article based on foundation money that is the top 4. Just relaying facts.

It was not based on facebook and twitter likes. It was the top ten sororities based on popularity and the success of each organization nationally. Stop pushing your sorority. That is just BS...Theta and Pi Phi are not iin the top four.

Seen the list, and yeah Facebook and Twitter followers are what they based it on, it was in the header, so it was a crap list. The people self-promoting and ripping on everyone are annoying though, I agree.

Kappa is the only one out of the four that you mention that is even good at Alabama. The other three are lower tier sororities.

Yeah ZTA is not strong nationally. ALOT of their chapters at strong schools with large greek systems have folded - USC, Pitt, SMU, Ohio State, Illinois (largest greek system in US), Syracruse, Kentucky, Ole Miss, Nebraska, Oregon, Oregon State, UCLA, Washington State, Colorado, Oklahoma, Univ. San Diego, West Virginia, Univ. Utah, New Mexico, Washington Univ. St. Louis. That is embarrassing!!!!!

By: Not ZTA
by: WellNov 16, 2012 12:00:02 PM

I certainly wouldn't say Zeta is the top sorority nationally, but they're without a doubt a strong sorority and definitely a good sorority. Everyone is acting like there's like 4 strong national sororities which is stupid.
