how it really is...fraternities and sororities

by: W.

I've been here for three years and as a member of what i have ranked as a middle tier fraternity i thought something at least remotely true should be put on this website. I'm not trying to say my rankings are 100% accurate, take them however you will but i tried to be unbiased. I just used everything i have seen, read, heard about, people i've met and people i've talked to, and just the overall impression i've gotten from every house. Coming from someone who is not Old Row, you'll still see a strong old row bias towards the top, this is because they are good houses and deserve that ranking. Every house has its good and bad, this is just an average, hopefully this can help someone trying to decide. Anyways, each tier is in random order, take them however you want, thanks.

As more out of state students come to Alabama, Theta-Pi Phi-Kappa-DG, will benefit. Nobody knows AOPi, Pi Mu, Alpha Gam outside a few southern states.

Been to every other state? Usually the schools where those sororities are top are some of the top Greek schools in the country, so your statement is basically "people have only heard of those sororities because they are top tier at a lot of the best Greek schools in the country."

Theta and Kappa will benefit. No one knows DG and Pi Phi that well. Those two do not have a good national reputation. But Theta and Kappa do.

Are both quite strong nationally, but the person commenting probably doesn't go to Bama, and is most likely in one of those sororities. For what ever reason Pi Phi, Kappa, and Theta think that they are the top sororities everywhere and post all over other school's boards to enforce the idea, usually ripping on ADPI, AOPi, Phi Mu, etc sat only being good in the South (ie most of the SEC schools that have basically the best Greek lives.)

could you say people haven't heard of DG and Pi Phi and that they aren't good nationally? Those are 2 of the strongest nationally.

Are extremely strong in the West and Midwest -- at least as strong as Theta and Kappa.

Very true post. Strong backing from national organizations is a HUGE positive for any chapter.
