what are my chances?
by: pnmOkay so I will be going through rush this coming Fall, and I'm super excited!! I don't read GR a lot, because everyone has told me that it's stupid and everyone's opinions are different, which I agree with. However, I am just curious about a couple things. I'm from Mobile, AL but I don't personally know barely any girls in sororities at UA just because a lot of girls from my school that go to Bama don't rush. Will this hurt me? I have a really good gpa and I was pretty involved during high school, but i'm not super in shape or very pretty. I'm nervous about rushing in general because of this. I'm really interested in AGD, AXO & XO!! Any thoughts or suggestions?? Thanks everyone :)

I cannot tell if this post is legit, but what the heck. If you are from Mobile and come from a school that sends a lot of girls to Kappa, KD or other old row houses and you do not have friends already in those houses to pull for you -- then you probably do not have much of a shot there. But, hey, you never know. You could really make a great impression. Work what you got. If it is personality and humor, go with that, if you are not a stunner or particularly popular.
You should keep an open mind and don't worry about being from a town that feeds certain houses but that you don't have a lot of connections. The only thing to worry about is that some houses will have actives that may know you (or know they don't know you) and this could hurt if they express a view that you may not "fit in." That is the fast way out of a Kappa or KD situation or even AGD, AXO or XO if girls from your school are in those houses. You may end up best suited in this situation at a house that does not have a bunch of Mobile girls at all.

Also, is it true that pnm's get paired to talk with girls in the sororities that are from the area that the pnm is from?

Thanks! I don't know any girls in any of the old row houses except for AGD, but I don't know her personally I just know of her because she graduated from my high school. I'm not much of a partier though, so I wasn't as interested in Kappa or KD, but I'm still keeping an open mind... it's just hard when you hear a lot of rumors.
