college gpa

by: Pnm

I plan on rushing as a sophomore and I'm wondering if you have a really high GPA from high school, and then have a 4.0 in college credits from high school but your first semester of college you get REALLY bad grades (i have reasons but no it's not an excuse please don't attack me about it I already know) but then you're second semester you get dean's list and your grades are great again, how would sororities look at this? Would they understand that maybe I just had a small fluke and it was a one time thing or are they going to look at the overall college gpa and automatically cut me?

They look at your overall college GPA, so leap away from GR and hit those books. Really. Get going. What are you reading this sentence for?!

For some reason I feel like this is exactly the kind of comment she was not looking for lol

First of all, "they" look and not "we" look? So this is a mom or Greekchat loser. Okay, got it. And are you sure you did so well in school yourself, honey? Because if you had reading comprehension skills, you'd have seen that she did in fact, "hit those books" and got Dean's List in the second semester.

When looking at GPAs, we don't make a first semester, second semester differentiation. It's just your full college GPA. But what will make a difference is if you recommendation letter writer speaks up for you and specifically tells us how awesome you were in high school and how much effort you made in your second semester.

i mean whats your current college GPA? sororities will be harder on you for grades because you're already a college student and can see how college has had an impact on you academics.

When it's time to rush my college GPA should be between a 3.0-3.2 which I understand is still low comparing to what sororities want but I want to know if the fact that it was only one bad semester and then the semester after that I got really good grades, if that would make a difference or are they just going to see my low 3.0-3.2 and automatically cut me? I would have dean's list for the spring semester to show for that but would it be enough for sororities to still consider me grade wise? I like to think that I'm very well rounded in everything else sororities are looking for so I'm really only worried about grades because of that one semester I messed up on

I'd be more worried about rushing as a sophomore than a 3.2 GPA...

I think that was her point. She's already a sophomore and not having a high GPA could hurt her chances a little, but I wouldn't stress over it. Plenty of sophomores rush and plenty get the houses they wanted! Best of luck to you during rush!
