i don't think alabama's npc should put themselves through all the hard work and stress of trying to bring a new sorority here when there's a fully eligible nationally recognized NPC sorority here that hasn't been apart of the mainstream greek life for a while.

i get it, SDT likes how they operate and they're an "alternative form" of Greek life, but y'all need to grow up. like if you can't handle being in a legitimate sorority then maybe Greek life in general isn't for you, or maybe join ADXi or an academic Greek organization. but at the end of the day y'all need to realize SDT is a legitimate nationally recognized NPC sorority.

they shouldn't get to sit out during rush just because they're not "popular among the PNMs." the numbers of incoming PNMs is growing rapidly, as you all should know, and these numbers are just going to keep going up. bringing a new sorority onto the campus will take years, lots and lots of money, and lots of time from a plethora of people. like i don't understand why the university and NPC won't just give SDT the ultimatum of either participating in formal rush or leaving campus.

no one wants a new sorority on campus, i can tell you that much. everything is already so crowded and PNMs are already so confused with the 18 sororities as it is. i hope someone from NPC is reading this right now because the solution to this problem is to have SDT work it out to where they can participate in formal rush and operate successfully with a bigger pledge class.

More people rushing and our system being "crowded" as you say is exactly why we need another sorority. Can you imagine if people had thought like you do in 08 and 11 when DG and Alpha Phi were colonizing? We would have 2800 PNMs and only 14 sororities, now that would be madness. SDT would have to leave campus for a minimum of 4 years and completely recolonize to avoid being permanently branded as the reject sorority like they were at Texas. It's way easier and a way better idea to invite a completely new sorority who has no reputation for PNMs to twist

you don't understand the point that I'm trying to make. people are suggesting other sororities, sigma kappa in particular, should be colonized here... but having a different sorority recolonize here is such a bad option to the issue at hand. SDT has been on campus for decades. i understand that they have like 40 total members, but trust me, if they really wanted to participate in formal recruitment, them and NPC would definitely find a way. colonizing a new sorority takes a ton of money, effort, and time and said sorority is still not even up and fully running for at least a good few years in. as i said, SDT has been on campus for decades and they have a lot of strong alum who want to see them succeed... SDT is known on campus, but not too well known, so pledge classes they could possibly take in would be able to establish whatever reputation. also, the perk of SDT being on campus for so long is that they know exactly how our Greek system works.

the point is is that colonizing a new sorority is the harder approach to try and solve this issue. all we need to do is basically re-vamp SDT. I'm not blaming SDT for anything, but i think as a sorority recognized by NPC they should be held to the same standards... and I'm not the only one who thinks this.

I do understand what you're saying, but in the nicest way possible, I think you're wrong. Think of it this way- SDT is forced to do formal, and PNMs feel like they are forced to be in a struggling, doomed chapter. SK comes to campus, and girls VOLUNTARILY go through their colonization, and receive bids to be the charter class of a new chapter (and, to be honest, they aren't doomed to being lowest of the low, which we all know SDT is). Either way this has already been tested with SDT at Texas and it was a massive failure.

I would love to see SDT recolonize, I think it would be great to have two new chapters here. I do think they would need to leave for a year or two to be successful just because it is such a competitive rush but you never know I guess.

SDT CAN'T compete! It's that simple! They don't have enough actives to handle formal recruitment! Also, PNMs will drop if only left with SDT at pref! Stop blaming SDT...it's not their fault! The system,at present, simply doesn't support SDT to operate like one of the other 16 NPC houses!

The same situation of the smaller less popular NPC houses being on/joining a campus is happening right now at Indiana (for those of you who enjoy reading other GR sites).

There are and will continue to be national NPC groups smaller in chapter number, smaller in member numbers, and smaller in availability of financial wherewithal. Does the NPC toss aside these smaller groups because they cannot hold a candle to their most popular NPC sororities? NOOOOOOOO!

Likewise, Alabama's panhellenic has it in their heart to allow SDT to remain a valued campus sorority AND extend the courtesy of an invitation to colonize to any mid-and large-size NPC groups not yet on campus. I would expect GR readers to hype and moan about SDT all day if they could, but the fact remains both NPC groups can and should belong here. Alabama's NPC groups work hard to bring relevant and exceptional experiences to thousands of collegiate women each year.

I mean, nothing's happened yet with SK. Or SDT.
Go make yourself useful and study something. Or at least clean something.

Sigma Delta Tau will not leave campus for a second. That would probably be a death knell. It has existed too long, and with its own brand of strong women, for many happy years.

If SDT ON ITS OWN makes inquiries about doing some sort of recolonization, without prompting for overzealous GR posters and/or panhel members, that would be another item entirely. THAT type of SDT interest would be welcome and discussed in the proper circles.

By the way, Happy 100 years of sorority life to the fine ladies of SDT on March 25th!
